TPS on 2004 Maxima

My SES light came on this morning on my 2004 Maxima. I brought it to Autozone and had a "Throttle Position Sensor" code. Apparently, according to my mechanic, 04+ Maxima's have to have the entire throttle body system replaced? There is no individual sensor? Let me know if this is the truth or not, because he is talking a lot of money compared to just the sensor.

If you can find just the sensor, you can drill out the rivet on the throttle body and replace the sensor then use the screws to secure the sensor. I did that on my Honda before.

I would check out junk yards and/or people parting out their cars first before buying it new!

The mechanic hooked it up to his computer and found that the two TPS' were working just fine. The symptoms only last about 3 miles of driving, and then it went away. He said it could have been a fluke electronic gremlin. He cleared the code, and now everything is fine. I'm sure this gremlin will show up again, but I'm glad I have this resource. I might try to find a throttle body system to buy cheap at a junk yard or drill the sensors out if this happens again.
