Precat compatibility question?

Hi everyone, threw a P0420 Bank 1 on a 05 Maxima automatic. I was wondering if 5 speed and automatic precats are the same? I looked at the book and cant find any answers, so I'm thinking they might be the same.

Can someone verify this? Thanks

Will this work on an auto http://forums.maxima.org/6th-generat...w-precats.html

Factory pre-cats are the same, whether manual or automatic transmission.

As for aftermarket, yeah probably, but maybe someone with firsthand knowledge can chime in.

IC they look the same, I just wanna make sure they line up correctly. I'm trying to get aftermarker cat since dealer prices are too expensive. Rock auto has it for 219 but cant ship to cali.

no they are not the same. the only ones that are the same are the rears. Fronts are different based on transmission type, 4speed auto and 5 speed auto use different sized front cats

Yea I would tend to agree that they are the same. A transmission has nothing to do with emissions so why would they use different pre cats?

What would I know, I just own a company that builds them specifically for the 6th gen maxima. Ever wonder why the 6th gen has 2 VERY different and not cross compatible Ypipes.............

FYI working at the factory and being the one making them are 2 different things

Looks like aftermarket stuff to me.

Besides, he asked if 5 speed and automatic cats were the same, which is a little confusing. The auto trans in a 2005 Maxima IS a 5 speed, so I assumed he was asking about the manual vs. auto convertor.

And he was also referring to the bank 1 pre-cat which IS the same.

Yes but he was also posting about buying the RL HFPC's from another member, he could install only bank 1 but I would not recommend mixing a high flow cat on one side with a stock one on the other.

Either way the link he posted is not the set he should be looking for. And I apologize, it seems we both may have been a bit jumpy, but it also my understanding that some of the early 05' autos still came off the lot with the 4speed auto, making crucial to specify which is which when applying certain parts to the car.

It may also be the OP's misunderstanding but a 5 speed maxima (04-08) is an Automatic Maxima. The Manual transmission is a 6speed.
