Unlock rear seat

I tried to use the key to unlock the rear seat and it won't even go in all the way. I pulled on the cloth handle in the trunk, and the smaller seat back opens, but not the larger one because of that lock behind the head rest. Is there another key in existence that the dealer never gave me?

The key doesn't insert all the way, maybe 1/3 to 1/2 way, and once inserted you should be able to turn the lock. You can't push the lock down? I believe you should be able to fold the passenger side seat down using the cloth latch behind it regardless of the lock, a feature to prevent someone being locked in the trunk.

Not really. The pull tab on the trunk lid is to get out the trunk. The lock is to deny access to the trunk and car.

I may be wrong, but pretty sure the hanging straps work just like the button. I am confused how you can open the smaller one and not the larger one. If it's locked, should affect both sides.

I just tried it, and the lock only denies access to the trunk from inside the cabin. The straps work regardless of the lock. The lock is just supposed to work in junction with the trunk switch inside the glove compartment to prevent thieves from having access to the trunk without a key or remote.

OP, it isn't really clear, but did you use the second strap behind the rear passenger seat to try and open it?

Could be, but if you hear the clicking sound it should be unlatching. Try pulling really hard on the strap and using a bit of force on the seat, maybe even kicking it from the trunk. When I checked my seats, I made sure the lock was locked and the seats were latched before trying the straps, so I am 99% sure the lock has no effect on the functionality of the straps.

So even with the key partly inserted into the lock it won't turn? You don't need to push on the lock, just insert the key as far as it can go and turn it. I think parallel to the direction of the car is unlocked and then you'll be able to push it down.

ok good to know. I never lock mine. The only key that doesn't work for it is the valet key. Like said, it only goes in halfway and turns to unlock it. If the button depresses, it should be unlocked. It seems your seat is jammed.

wait, you never mentioned if you tried to turn the key even though it only goes in halfway? Again the valet key will not unlock it.

Just checked.
If key slot is vertical and you can press it = unlocked.
If key slot is horizontal and does not press = locked.

How do you distinguish between the valet and regular key? Is the plastic part a differnt color?

That's a good question, I don't even know where mine is right now. I THINK the plastic was smaller.

Those seats are a bit sticky, just give the big one a good shove, and it should open up.
