check your engine oil level. If its low, it'll set that code.

Yes, check your oil level. Sometimes the oil can get very gummy and viscous and can clog in the engine(which will set off p0011 or p0021)- the car may require a flush.

2008 Maxima P0011 P0021 codes

2008 Maxima 3.5SE 85,000 miles; box stock; I have been getting these two codes for about a year. First time had it reset and took another 4-6 months before came on again. Ignored and check engine light went off after a week. Car is running well; no problems at all. In the last month or so, light is on again; had my shop look at it and (they are not Nissan experts) they are thinking the sensors or could the timing chains be getting lose? Now I had the light go out and then come on again within a few days. All this time the car drives fine.

Never heard of the oil level being a possible cause; will check that.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

2008 Maxima P0011 P0021 codes

Checked the oil and no issues there. I sure do not want to go to the dealer on this... Will probably look for a shop that works a lot on Nissans.

trying crankcase flush and new oil

Well based on all the research on a couple of forums I have gotten the engine flushed and put new oil in and engine light is reset and we will see if the codes come back. Given the car is running well with no issues I am hoping that we will be ok. Will check back soon.

Cheers.

SE light back on

Well, after about 10 days I have the service engine light back on; havent checked what the code is as yet but should be the P0011 or 21 code. Not real interested in going to a dealer as I have had a few bad experiences in the past at dealers.

Would welcome any thoughts.

continuing P0011, 21 issues

Since my last post I had another oil change about 2 months ago and the codes just kept coming; I just started to ignore them after a while as the car just runs fine. Now had her in for an oil change and also had the cooling system flushed and the brake system flushed and new fluid added (just turned 90K). that was about 2 weeks ago and have not seen a code as yet. In the last two months I have not gone three days without a code showing up. I am hoping the system has been cleared out with oil changes and it is taken care of.

Cheers.

Well I am back again if anybody is out there... Here is what has fixed my situation: just put synthetic oil in and had one code about 3-4 weeks in and then... I am code free for the last 5 months and about 6k miles. As I mentioned, the car never had a problem; always ran perfectly. Now at 109K; bought about 4.5 years ago with 48K.

Cheers.

I seem to have a problem similar to Randy's and was wondering if I could ask a question about my 2005 Maxima. My Maxima threw a P0340 and I realized that I needed to replace the Bank 1 camshaft sensor which I did. I change my car oil every year and drive less than 1500 each year. As soon as I had replaced the camshaft sensor and driven the maxima no more than 1000 feet, the SES light came again but this time with P0011 error code. I was really suspicious of the timing and felt that maybe I touched some cables or such while fixing the Bank 1 camshaft sensor, which on a Maxima is really inconveniently located.
So I am now wondering what I should do next ? The car has new engine oil. Is there a way I can check if there is sufficient oil pressure to check that the oil pressure is correct (in which I suppose I need to replace the valve itself ?). Appreciate all help as I am really stuck now.

I had a P0340 error showing up on my 2005 Nissan Maxima. This corresponds to a bad cam shaft sensor (rear of the engine). So well, I had bought a replacement camshaft sensor from OReillys made by some company "Import Direct" that had a lifetime warranty. As soon as I replaced my old cam shaft position sensor with the new one, the car started throwing up a P0011. I good some very good advice from DennisMlk and started suspecting the new sensor. It was probably the case that the actual sensing element inside the sensor is not correctly aligned for a Maxima which causes a phase advance or delay.
In any case, I got the sensor replaced free of cost by another "Import Direct" sensor thinking the new spare was probably bad but kept getting the same error.
So took my car to Autozone and bought a sensor from them which worked. I have driven some 14 miles on the new sensor and don't see a P0011. Earlier, I used to get it in less than 0.3 miles of driving the car.

So long story short, "Import Direct" cam shaft sensor (part number 0204) from OReillys does not seem to be compatible with a 2005 Maxima even though OReilly's website claims it to be.

On my 04 maxima its saying intake variable timing solenoid bank 1 for the p0011 code.if the solenlid is bad and not working could that make the timing chain area have a slight noise or would that be something else?
