Looking to buy an 04 maxima..is this a bad idea?

ok so obviously im new to maximas...but i have decided its what i want to buy. I found an 04 that i want to go check out. But upon browsing this forum i see a lot of negativity towards the 04's. the one i am looking at is a se model with the 6 speed manual trans. from what I have read, the auto trans is what you want to stay away from...but is there any problems with the manual trans? I don't want to buy something that i will have to throw tons of money into. Oh and the car has 81k miles now

oh and my brother in law would like to know your opinion about a 1999 ford f150 also with 106K miles.... the model with the 4 wheels. I've read some bad things about the F150 man.... everything can go wrong, engine, tires, tranny, ball joint, brake dust...

my sister says it's bad but she doesnt know much about cars you know... her father changes her oil and says its ok....

There is no such thing as "a bad car" there is only BAD OWNERS, with that being said inspect any car as much as possible before buying it because a car that people consider "a good car" can turn out to be a horrible one due to the previous owner.

Eh....IMO best maximas were the 3.5 2002-2003's and lower, anything made after 03 was just garbage. Especially since the 6th gen automatic transmissions are very unreliable. I say get a 5.5 6 speed, OR that guys^^^ 6 speed that is 04. If its automatic, stay far far away lol again my $0.02. Oh and also about that ford, stay far away from american made cars. Google the year make and model and check the list of issues then take a picture of your face in disbelief and post it here lmao!

There are issues, but it also depends how the car is taken care of. Depending on the mileage, there is the timing tensioners and the 5 speed auto issues with the VB that are considered major issues and are expensive to address and will eventually occur unless already fixed.

Then there's the struts that fail within 80K miles, motor mount issues ect.

IMO the biggest issue that you will have is going to be eventually have to replace the timing chain tensionser/guides. Also you AC lowport hose will probably develop a leak at some point.

Miles seem pretty good. So as long as you get it at a low enough price, you will still have funds to do repairs and still come out on top.

is the timing chain tensioner an expensive fix? are all of these problems inevitable? I love the look of these cars and i want this one so bad, but problems like this scare me lol.

Tensioners will happen eventually if thy haven't replaced them yet. At the dealer it runs about 1.4K labor alone, $300 parts.
Mom and pop shop would charge about $800-1000 for labor.
