Bank 1 catalytic converter removal?

hi everybody, so i just purchased a 06 maxima and have a p0420 code, also a loud whining noise after accelerating i'm convinced its the bank 1 cat converter, but am having trouble removing it.i dont know how to access the two top bolts that mount the converter to the manifold, two bolts have also snapped off during my attempt at removing them. can anybody offer a link or instructions on how to remove the bank 1 cat? your help would be appreciated.

whining noise is most likely caused by worn out timing chain tensioners.

You have to take off the 2 cowls to get to them. There's a plastic 1 and a metal 1 under that. Once you have both cowls and the wipers off then all your bank 1 stuff is easily accesable =) Then have to remove the heat shield on the exhaust manifold and either move it around until you can get a socket on 1 then the other, or remove the A/F sensor and take the heat shield out completly to get at those 2 upper bolts on the bank 1 cat. I just finished that job lol.

As for the whinning AscendentMax has it right, its the timing chain tensioner. Im in the middle of doing this right now. Drop your oil pan, I bet youll find the plastic piece and maybe some metal shavings. Dont wait too long to get that fixed. Itll only get worse and youll end up lossing the engine.

Hope this helps

Did you have to remove the axle to get the cat out? I took mine to a shop today and they told me the axle would have to come out to make room to get the cat out. I did not think this was the case.

Thanks.

Catalytic converters

Early 2003 Nissan Maxima 200,000

I got a code of P0420 and P021?

can anyone tell me how much labor is involved in Bank 1 and 2? I think if they will give me a deal i will do both if not then one at a time.
I will consider upgrading to better Catalytic converters or(headers??) if the price is similar. please advise.. please tell me if the ebay ones are any good? or amazon ?

what is code P021?

Bank 1 exhaust manifold heat shield removal?

Does anyone have an tricks or process on how to remove heat shield from manifold?

Bottom bolt is free, but the top two are not and bolts are rusted/rounded off so I can't remove. The heat shield is held well tho because of the top two bolts. Can i pry or cut off somehow? I've tried some things but not working.
