Transmission

About a year and a half ago i took my 2006 Maxima to the dealer to have them replace the catalytic converter. after that i noticed a fluttering/chattering noise between shifts. less than a week later im taking it back to the dealer hoping it was something they did when replacing the cat. They told me that it was the torque converter in the transmission. i have not had a second opinion on the trans yet. they told me that they would not replace just the torque converter because it could have caused other damage to the trans and if im paying the labor to have them replace the torque converter i might as well just replace the whole trans to be safe. i do not want to be taken advantage of by the dealer. the car has been pretty much just sitting around for the last year and a half. probably put 3,000-4,000 miles on it since the told me it was a trans issue. any opinions or similar problem? the car had not been shifting hard or slipping.

You have simple choices. Do nothing and drive until funny things happen or replace the converter and hope no other funny business happens.

Get a second opinion from a transmission specialist. You MAY have to pay them for the diagnosis but its a small price for a better piece of mind. Dealers like to screw people major.. IMO
