2004 Maximum not heat when in idle
2004 Maximum not heat when in idle
Hello All! My 2004 Maxima is not blowing heat when in idle. I have replaced the thermostat, water pump and radiator. Completed the flushing process and still have a gushing sound coming from the heater core but no heat when in idle. What else can be done other then replacing the heatercore. I had the heatercore blown out and my mechanic has replaced the parts previous mentioned. Need help what else can be done. Does the 2004 engine have two thermostats or a coolant sensor. Also, my car has 268K and runs excellant just a heat issue right now.

Sounds like you have replaced everything but the heater core. When was the last the fluid in the cooling system was replaced before this past time? When left in too long the coolant will turn corrosive then turn to gel eventually.
Hopefully it is just an air bubble though. Elevate the front of the car on a hill or some ramps or both and just let it run without the radiator cap on with the heat on full blast. A Lisle no spill funnel makes the burping process much easier.

Holy **** 268k on the original transmission and engine? You didnt mention replacing the blower motor resistor. http://www.partsgeek.com/mmparts/blo...an/maxima.html
I drive in the ice cold for weeks until discovering it can be fixed by a $100 part located behind the glovebox (I think i had to remove it). Once the new one was installed, heat was back.

from my understanding, the problem the OP has illustrated is different from what you described above.
To the OP, sounds like you have air trapped in the system. It can be tricky getting all of the air out of the system especially if the whole system was drained and air blown dry.

^^ sounds correct
I had that before. If heat starts to come up when you press accelerator (while driving or parked), that's air in the system.
There were few posts a while back on how to try and fix it without going to the shop.
