Shorter Stick Shift
Shorter Stick Shift
I have a 6MT 04 Maxima and I want the shifter to be shorter. I dont wanna install a Short shifter and get into all of that. Would it be bad if I just sawed of a inch or two and got aftermarket shift ****???
I saw another thread about a shorter shifter but no one asked this

It is simply a matter of personal preference, but make sure you understand how this works before you do something that cannot be undone easily. A short throw kit is a lot easier to install and very reversible.
- Cutting the stick (reducing the lever arm length) reduces the distance of vertical (yaw) and lateral (pitch) throws - which is what you seem to want. However, it consequently increases the input effort (force) the operator needs to exert to change gears and may cause you more difficulty with quick gear changes.
- You still need to re-thread the arm if you cut enough of it off because it only extends about an inch, or cut a lower portion and weld the existing top.
- You could retain the same ****, but will have to either remove the lockout or cut and re-attach and bond the plastic that holds the spring to the lift mechanism (or sleeve, if yours has that).
