Help with timing issue!!!
I have a 2004 with the typical timing tensioner problem. It rattles for about 20-30 min(30 min only when its really cold)then eventually dies off. I know ive heard that i dont need to change the chains but if im pulling the motor is this something that i should do anyway? Also what is the best route for the parts? Should i stay Nissan oem or is aftermarket the way to go?

Id stay with OEM nissan. Try courtecyparts.com
Chains don't have to be replaced but they could have too much slack for riding on the metal piston too long so you need to inspect the chain then decide if it needs replacing. When i did my tensioners, i replaced the chains and water pump anyway since its such PITA

Ebay has the kits but you still need a few more parts to go with it. I have to do mine this year expect to spend at least $500 on parts also change the water pump while you are in the .

This is what the kit looks like the guide all the way to the left normally breaks off at the top. I think yours may be broken already but the secondary tensioner shoes are worn out which causes your car to make the noise even after start up.

Thanks for the info. Ended up bringing the car to the dealership. Charged me $1080 with replacing all chains ans fixed a few other minor problems. Problem is now that within the day of me picking up the car i noticed there was a what sounded to be like a belt squeal but after a few other opinions it seems like it might be a spun bearing. Any known issue of this happening after timing job or any ideas in general??? Please help!!!

So it ended up being a bad tensioner on my main pulley. Brought it to the dealership and the tech ended up breaking the tensioner trying to tighten my belt because he over tightened it and when he tried to back it off it snapped the tensioner. So a few days later i have a new tensioner, pulley and belt installed for free of charge because the tech who originally did my timing overlooked the bad tensioner in the first place. All it took was knowing the right words to say without losing my cool(not easy for me to do by any means) and a little bit of patience. All in all im happy cuz my car runs and sound beautiful for an 04' with 150,000
