Can my car give me 24.3mpg/100 km without a tune and mods?

Wassup everyone. I recently check my gas consumption and was shocked because I have headers, troubled codes and no tune. I recently changed my front air/fuel ratio sensor but I don't think a simple sensor can improve you mpg by that much. Is my eyes deceiving me or is this normal to go from 13.7 to 24.3 over night on my 04 Maxima?

umm thats not 24.3 mpg lol. The info screen is saying that now it is taking 24.3L for 100 km. It was better before at 13.7L. So the computer is saying that it has got worse. But I know that vehicle on board info is very inaccurate.

Buy gas without ethanol. Ethanol reduces fuel economy.

You beat me to it. If you can find Ethanol free gas go for it. Only thing it is pricier. Give it a try...I guarantee you'll see improvement in MPG.

There was a website that had locations of where to buy gas without ethanol. I have never put that in my car. If I ever find a gas station with it, I will gladly try it out and see.

Nissan recommends premium gas for our cars and there is no ethanol in premium (91 octane) fuels. Note that the 89 octane (mid) is a 50/50 blend of regular and premium done at the pump.

So stick with premium gas and you'll be ethanol free.

Shell V-Power premium gasoline in Canada does not contain ethanol

Had a Yaris hatchback and loved that car. Sure it only had 105hp, and any acceleration beyond beyond highway speed was non-existant. But it was light, and could be fitted with VERY grippy 205-55R16 making it corner quite well - on 3 wheels!. I could brake so much later and carry more speed into corners than heavier and more powerful cars. Mind you I would fall back at the slightest sign of a straight.

It was easy to drive it hard without hitting ridiculous speeds, while barely using gas. Some of my best backroad drives have been with a Yaris.

So the higher the L/100km is the less mpg you get? I have no idea how to read it. I reset it and it went back to 13.7L/100km

For anyone interested in locations for non ethanol gas in the States.

http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp

I tried 3 full tanks of gas. I am impressed with the mileage, it has definitely increased. What I must mention, I didn't do 3 full tanks back to back. I did 2 back to back, then returned to Shell 93 w/ ethanol and it did drop. My last tank which I did last week on non ethanol increased mpg again. It's hard for me because I have to drive nearly 25 minutes to get to a gas station that has it available. In "U.S." ethanol is in all grades. I have heard that it is a bit different in Canada like "loosepiston" mentioned. Not sure why or how though.

Yes, as the guy above stated, that means that your car is taking 24 Liters of gas in order to travel 100km. After the reset, it is now showing as taking 13.7 Liters of gas to travel that same 100km. A better number is usually to be expected after a reset, depending on where you reset it - if you reset it while driving on the highway it will read a lower number. If you reset it and then do a lot of city driving or idling, it will read a higher number.

Adding "mpg" to the mix kind of confuses things, because since you guys use the metric system up there, we have two different forms of measurement to worry about. 1 Liter is a little over 1/4 of a gallon, at 0.264 gallons.

But to make a long story short, you got it. The higher the L/100km, the worse your equivalent mpg.

I get 11.2L/100km (21.0mpg) in a mixed city/highway/stuck-in-traffic daily drive scenario. A highway only drive at 115km/h (70mph) for 2 hrs gets me down to 8L/100km (29.4mpg).

This is all on premium (91 octane) gas.

Man I grew up on that metric system..makes me wanna go overseas now
Anyways to add a little to it.Your info screen should say km/H and not just km.Meaning your car will take 24 L to travel 100 kilometers AT 100km/h (60mph).That number (24L) will be much higher if you do 180 km/h (100 mp/h) or more but we all know that.So yes.The lower the number before the "L" the less gas it spends. Also idk if I should add to the litre and gallon thingy..but 1 gallon is equivalent to 3.8 L.

This is a lot of science. I actually thought the opposite. I had to ask because another 6thgen and myself was comparing it except I have mods and he doesn't, yet still his is higher than mine so I assumed my ish is running horrible

You can change from litres per 100 kilometres to US miles per gallon on Canadian Maxima's on the dash. The US gallon has 3.8 litres and the imperial gallon has 4.54 litres.

I did it and it says it's average around 16.6mpg. Dunno if that's about right for a car with headers

OK.Now when you're on freeway press [fuel economy].Then press and hold [trip reset] till u hear a beep. This will reset your MPG computer and show you EXACTLY how much it gives you in that particular moment.Usually it goes down on city drive, and drops way lower when you peal off or just simply by having a heavy foot on gas pedal.MPG computer can go down really fast, but it takes time to go back up.So [trip reset] (resets your MPG too if you have it on display) is your best bet.

Dude, I very regularly get 25mpg when driving conservatively. I've gotten 7mpg at the race track. I've averaged 31mpg on my trip from San Diego to Sacramento. Yeah there was no traffic as I left at 10pm and drove all night, aaand I reset my mpg when I hit the freeway but its possible.
