Maxima/Altima Mixup
Maxima/Altima Mixup
As a 6th generation Maxima owner why do people commonly say nice Altima or can never tell the difference between the Altima and the Maxima. The problem seems to have started every since the 3rd generation Altima
(2002-2006) came out then the 6th gen Maxima (2004-2008) and the 4th gen Altima (2007 2011 afterwards). Even the media gets them mixed up

Does this really look like a Altima guys!
News 4 San Antonio was told a 2006 Nissan Altima stalled out on the tracks at Thousand Oaks and Wetmore Road around 5:00 a.m. The woman driving got out safely. Several people tried to help her get the car off of the tracks, but they were unable to move it in time.
After the crash, the train ended up stalled on the tracks for about 2 hours.

I can almost understand the confusion between a 6th gen Max and an Altima... but what's sad is that some people confuse my 5.5 gen with an Altima... even though there is absolutely no resemblance between my car and any Altima that ever existed.
One time I dropped off my car at a Nissan dealership for a recall and the lady I left my car with was filling in a form while standing right beside it looked at it and said "that's an Altima?". I hope she was new...

People never say nice Maxima to me they always say nice Altima, nobody knows it's a Maxima until I tell them. The dealership gave me a loaner Altima 2.5 2010 while they did my timing chain on the Maxima and then people started saying nice Maxima.
When the 6th gen Maxima debuted in 04 the Maxima took two steps up and grew large all of a sudden. You always knew the Maxima was the Lion and the Altima was the lionness. The problem became that they looked too much alike. Really you can tell an 04 Maxima from an 04 Altima easier than you can tell an 04 Maxima from an 07 Altima.
Same thing happened to me when I had my 5th gen Accord ('94). People kept calling it a Civic.
In the Accord world we hate being called Civics. But its the same type of mix up.
People who aren't car enthusiasts can't really pick up on the differences. A car is a car to them.

Back then the Accord and the Civic you couldn't tell the difference if you didn't know alot about cars. It's like that with me and the Maxima It gets aggrivating when they say nice Altima or dude I love your Altima i'm like that's a Maxima!!!!
If it helps any, I ALWAYS get told, "Nice Sentra" or "Is it a Spec-V?" to my Altima SER... just because it says SER on the back, they assume it's a Sentra. Which I understand when it's someone who's not into cars, but even people who are ask me that. At least the Maxima -> Altima comments (potentially) keep you with a VQ... they're calling my VQ ad QR
