Vibration from transmission

I'm getting vibration through the steering wheel and the front seat passenger side is really noisy too. The car has just 72K miles on it.
I took the car to have the motor mounts checked and the mechanic says they are 'like new'. He thinks it is the transmission. So, I tested it on a flat road. At about 30-40 mph I was getting the vibration quite strongly, so I moved the selector into neutral while keeping the rpm's the same. The vibration disappeared completely. I can tell now that the amount of vibration is proportional to how much power I'm using.
Is this a known issue? I plan to drop the pan, change the fluid and filter first.

Nobody have an idea? It is very rough compared with my Gen IV which has 162,000 miles! Got it in the garage at the moment for tranny fluid and filter change, let's see if anything is obvious.

I don't have that but I think I know what you mean, my wife's Altima 2.5 does it.

I'm not sure if this will help you or not my friend. Here's the situation that I had. I had a problem with vibration for almost 1.5 year. The vibration would start from 25mph all the way to 55 and it would come back and go away intermittently. Driving in canyons...I noticed while turning right the vibration would get worse and when turning left the vibration would go away. I am lowered on Eibach and 6 months after I lowered the car my passenger side axle boot was torn and I changed the boot right away so that I could save the axle from breaking down. after a while I noticed the vibrations and I know how irritating it can be. So yesterday I decided to just change the passenger side axle which I wasn't confident about it because we had to dismantle it to change the boot. anyways the vibration is gone now. I just bought autozone new halfshaft(axle) for 60 bucks. If you had to replace your cv axle or even pull it out and put it back in....it might be the axle that gives you vibration. if when cold, the car vibrates less...but gets worse as it get hot it's the axle. The vibration in my case was a slight vibration in the steering and also under feet(pedals)...interestingly, my family were not able to spot the vibration and when I talked about it...they couldn't feel it.

make sure you are not rubbing on anything like the exhaust heat shield, when in drive.

Thanks nsnrider and emilbadal. I think it's either the mounts, which have all been replaced with non-OEM, or the exhaust. The dealer wants me to change all the mounts!!!
