05 Steering Concern

I have an 05 Maxima with 168,000 miles. Original owner.

Today started getting a noise as I turn my steering wheel, either stopped or slow speed. Seems to be a small tapping noise only while turning the wheel. Almost like a gear is going bad.

Tried the search function but couldn't find similar issue.

Thanks for suggestions where to look.

Check your CV axles. A worn CV and torn boot will cause clicking while turning.

That would be my first guess anyways.

Finally got a chance to check on things. Looks like it is an issue with the steer intermediate shaft. How difficult are these to change? Appear to be 2 bolts and then some creating manipulation.
