07 120K miles check engine light

Could use a little advice. I have an 07 SE with about 120,000 miles on it. Runes great but I have not been great about the maintenance that should have been done when at this mileage.

My check engine light just went on and I wanted to try a few things I should have done anyway on my end before I bring it in.

Are there any known common reasons for check engine light coming on for this model/year/mileage? Spark plugs need to be changed for sure. Engine oil/filter/air filter was just changed.

One more thing, if it was a CVT maintenance issue, is there a separate indication? I was told that there would be a visual indication when CVT needed help, but was not told if it was the check engine light or something else.

Many thanks.

Why not just pull the code? Much easier and takes the guess out work out.

I guess I wanted to look like less of a nub and get some simple **** done before I embarrass myself at a shop getting a code read for something simple maintenance would have taken care of.

I use a $40 scan tool I bought on eBay to read codes and reset the CEL.

There's at least 100 different codes you could have. Go to an auto parts store and have them read the codes so you have an idea of what to look at.
