Picking up an 04 tomorrow… Advice?

Whats up guys… Been a while since I owned my 5th Gen Max.

GOing to pick up an 04 Maxima tomorrow. Guys says it has 130K miles on it. Needs a bit of body work and paint. But Im looking to pick the car up for $2,000 or less. He wants $2300 for it.

Questions are:

Any known problems with the 04 Maxima? What is there i should look for or lets say BEWARE of? $2,000 a good deal for an 04 with 130k?

Here are the only pictures I have of the car.

It really depends on how it runs. It could run like a dream, with a $4000 paintjob it could look pretty good. But is the car worth $6000 with 130,000 miles...chances are no, since there will likely be other things wrong with it.

Here's my take. The guy got into a wreck, collected settlement from insurance and tried to fix a few things on his own so he could bank the rest. Anyone can replace a fender and light housing. He probably planned on finishing the bumper and painting the car, but things got tight and he burned through the money. Typical I bet of his behavior for mechanical issues he encountered, hence the low price.

All I'm saying is be very cautious you don't fall in love with a money pit.

I'd PASS on that car, and a Maxima (w/CVT) all together. One of the worst investment I've ever made. If you're looking for a Maxima, get a manual with no manual shift (CVT) or go with an AUTO (non CVT).

I looked it over and couldn't of gotten out of there fast enough. I literally didn't even test drive it. I drive 50 minutes to look at it. "NOTHING IS WRONG AT ALL" with it. I get there…. Back passenger caliper is seized. Needs pads and rotors all around. All tires are bald as ****. Motor is tapping. "the tapping goes away after a half hour" he says. I scan the car, 3 codes come back. Misfire in multiple cylinders, and 2 crank sensor codes. The dude could have told me he'd give it to me for $1,000 and i would have walked away from it.

Here is the best part. He actually said he PAID someone to come over and do the body work on the driver quarter. His "BODY GUY" was so lazy, he didn't even take the pin striping off. He filled and smoothed the dent right into the pin striping. I almost fell down when I seen it.

As the saying goes...If a deal is too good to be true, it usually is. Eventually, a sucker will come along and take the bait of the low price.

Going to look at a 2007 with 190K on it in the morning. Wants $5000 for it, and he told me he'd sell it for $4000.

Same opinions??
