'07 Maxima SE dead fuel gauge
On Friday morning I started my Maxima, with a full tank of gas, and gauge barely rose, to just below the "E" and the rest of the gauges read as normal, no warning lights on the dash, the trip odometer was showing a little more than 12 miles since I had filled it up (I reset it every time) and the distance to empty was showing me close to 230 miles. I called my local Nissan service center, and the woman I spoke to said it was most likely the sensor for the gas gauge had failed, and they could fix it. This morning I brought it in, and after over 2 hours, the guy who supposedly looked at the car gave me some crazy explanation about why the fuel gauge was dead, and told me they would have to replace the entire instrument cluster at the cost of $1,000. I feel like the guy was jerking me around and not telling me the truth. I'm seriously thinking of calling another local Nissan service center and explaining the problem and seeing if I can get a second opinion. Has anyone else had this issue, even if it was with any of the other gauges? The guy today even said, "Aside from needing a new instrument cluster, your car is fine." Can it be a quick fix, or should I bring the car back to get a new instrument panel? Thanks for any help and suggestions!
