Monroe Struts
Monroe Struts
Surprisingly, there aren't really any posts regarding struts.
I'm planning on changing my struts this weekend and wanted to see if anyone has an opinion as to how the monroe struts are..
Also, has anyone done this themselves before? Looks easy.

Part of the reason why I traded in the 07 was it was due for front struts, and I wasn't going to pay someone (initially). I looked into doing it myself, everyone I spoke to about re-using the springs said it was a very dangerous venture if you don't use the right tools and have the knowhow. So it was then looking at coilovers, which of course made the price go up...finally I just said enough is enough. Out of 3rd party warrantee for 20k miles, I'm done putting money into a car worth only $6k at the time. All my point is, if you're doing coilovers, it's easy, if you're looking to reuse the springs, then no, not easy.
I was able to replace the front struts. It was VERY SIMPLE to do. The removal of the rusted bolts would be the challenge, other than that, it took ten minutes. The hangup, however, was the sway bar link. I ended up cutting that bolt off with a sawzall.. in hindsight, it would've been easier to just cut the actual link since the bolt to remove it from the strut was seized.
2 hours and everything was done. Keep in mind they sell ready struts, struts where everything is one piece. So, no more worrying about the dangers of the compressed springs.
Good Luck and ping me if you have questions. I'd say it was easier than a brake job!
