About the Pre-Cat and Y-pipe options!?!
About the Pre-Cat and Y-pipe options!?!
I am new to this forum but have owned a few maximas and plenty of other nissans. I am a certified mechanic (B-Tech). I got a super good deal on an 04 Nissan Maxima SE fully loaded with the 5at trans. Has 125k on it with the infamous P0430 code and bad wheel sensor throwing the cel and abs light. My questions start here.....
Unlike most other cars I have played with including the 5th Gen and 4th Gen maximas I have noticed that the Pre-Cat options for the 6th Gen are very slim. My first choice was to purchase the High Flow Pre-Cats and the Y-pipe from Racingline Performance due to several friends who have that setup and love them but after I tried everything to even have the ability to add a product to the cart to checkout I then tried to contact the company and nothing. So I researched and found that for the past few months no one has gotten anything they ordered on top of not getting any response or even knowing if the guy is ok...
So then I started looking into the Cattman Performance products which I remember years ago were excellent products but a lil more expensive and then guess what, I read that a few years ago he also went out of business.
So my main question is this, I want some replacement Pre-Cats and a Y-Pipe since my flex has a little tear in it anyway with 02 bungs already in them in the right place. So where do I get them!?! You can find all kinds for other gen maximas but not 6th. Best I have done so far was to find Pacesetter, which only even list the rear Pre-Cat.... PLEASE HELP

I am interested in Racingline's cats and y-pipe as well and noticed the same thing you did. No "add to cart" button and no response to two emails. I hope we are not loosing them.
An option for both cats and y-pipe is Magnaflow. They are really well known and respected and there products seem to be very high quality. The cats and y-pipe seem like OE type replacements. They have all the correct o2 bungs, use OE type gaskets and are stainless steel. I can't find any info about them being a high flow performance upgrade though. I would assume they flow better than the factory ones (Magnaflow) and I may send them an email asking about it. They are a little more expensive than the Racinglines and are available at quite a few places. You can see them at magnaflow.com and get availability from the "where to buy" option. There are a lot of online dealers.

Same here
I also found the MagnaFlow and called them because they are not very clear on what if any are hi-flow. The rep told me both versions are considered "Hi-Flow". The standard/hm apparently are the higher flow while the OEM type are supposedly for California cars that have tighter restrictions, but are non the less both considered hi flow. It is very hard to find any review if any onthe MagnaFlows hfpc I assume because they are only widely known for there actual mufflers and cat-backs. I'm honestly considering doing it the correct way and spending hours on hours correctly clearing and cleaning the factory pre-cats and using the 02 simulator after to correct the cel and possibly running a good Y-pipe with the setup. I just installed a good cai and honestly forgot the beast that lives within the 3.5 since it has been a while. I have been driving a factory 03 civic si hatch to work every day for a good while now so it is nice to feel the torque and hear the growl every once and a while
I also need to replace both of my precats. Thinking of going with whatever the cheapest option is. So expensive I bought the car for 7000 and ive already spent more than that repairing it in a year and a half. Ridiculous. By the way before doing your speed sensor replace the negative battery cable with a nice fresh new one. $5000 in repairs later only to find out that was my issue when I had those same lights come on. My car was cutting out on the highway and into safe mode and at any red lights. 2 dealerships and 4 local shops couldnt figure out the problem until finally a random tech guessed it. Mine was corroded at the bottom by the chassis.
by the way sonce youre there if you could check the part number on the bank 2 sensor 2 driver side o2 sensor thats just by the precat id appreciate it. I can only find the part for the passenger side one!

I was able to find the y pipe flex precats etc for 550$ on kijiji (craigslist) who knows what brand they are it doesnt say. Ebay also has a ton. But idk. Im in the same boat as you ive got leaky flex.pipes and now my o2 sensor joint is leaking and throwing the code for that o2 by the pass side precat
Bump. I think I am just going with the 49 state cats from Magnaflow.

Options are limited even though these cars are sought after for opening them up.
How many cats in total does this thing have, including pre cats?3?

Isnt fixing the ABS higher on the priority list then the Y pipe option? Its unfortunately going to likely cost you almost what the car is worth to sort out the ABS actuator and sensor issues, this part of the car was a lemon. I spent thousands and the problem was reoccurring on my 04. They made a real piece of junk ABS system on this car.
