05 Max SL running very sluggish after warm up

Hello everybody,

here it goes, coming back from business trip, was going to accellerate to pass car on highway, car buckles and loses horsepower. pulled to side of road, waited a few minutes, then continued on road but car was very sluggish. Very hard to accellerate. took a long while to get up to speed. Made it home eventually, checked plugs, coils were in oil due to valve covers. Replaced valve covers to fix major leaking, put in new plugs, new coils. Still doing same thing. Replaced MAF sensor, unplugged battery for a day, still slugish. Finally gave up and took it to mechanic. Mechanic said codes read Electronic Throttle (throttle body) . Gave him the ok to replace, now $480 and 5 days later still no luck. I told the mechanic if it could be the precats or cats being clogged but he said the codes dont show that. Took to muffler shop for estimate on gutting out cats, muffler guy gave me a quote but said that if it isnt throwing a cat code that it probally is not the cats. Any ideas?

What were the precise codes? Could be a couple of things: the fuel pump, ignition timing, VIAS control solenoid valve, the accelerator pedal position sensor. What's your rpm at idle?

The codes were electronic throttle control, that's what the mechanic said. But no codes for anything else. The car idles perfectly, only after driving it and trying to get on expressway does it start bogging down. Pretty much when I try to get some power out of it. If I feather it it will drive but not as sluggish as when I give it some gas to speed up quickly.

If the SES light is still on run a scan again and post the precise codes(Pxxxx). While at it run the live data too. You may PM me for feedback/updates.

So gutting the cats worked and p0420 or p0430 code didnt show? I would appreciate an update on how it performs, mpg, and sound, if possible. I have a bad cat and am looking for my options, but a few people had said to avoid gutting them. Thanks!

I didn't put spacers in the o2 sensors so the ses light is on, mpgs are back to normal 28-29 on highway , city 17-21 depending how I'm driving. I didn't remove the resonator so its not louder than it was before. On initial start up there's a growl but that's about it. Its running very strong but I did just give it a tune up as stated in earlier post.
