I'm going to look at an 05 maxima sl with 144x miles on it that im getting a good deal on. I like these cars alot but from what I'm reading they are notorious for transmission problems & being money pits. Does anyone have experience with this model? How many miles do they last on average? I'm only looking to get a car that'll last me a year or 2. Am I better off getting a 2004 altima with more mileage on it for the same price?

 

is it a manual w/6speed, auto w/4 speed, or auto w/5speed?

 

It's autmatic. Not sure if it's 4 or 5.. i know manuals tend to last longer but is one automatic better then the other?

 

Has anyone had an 04 or 05 that pasted 170x miles+ with no transmission problems????

 

05' SE here with 260k. Changed the oil every 8k and ATF 20k other fluids as well. If it was taken care of it will be fine. Pull the dipsticks and check it out.

 

06 se, 5 speed. 206k miles. I only know the work/maintenance in the last 100k miles or so. No "major" problems except one pre-cat replaced a month ago. All else was pcv valve, plugs, suspension stuff, axles, oil cooler o-ring, and other fluid top offs. Tranny fliud drained and refilled about 10k miles ago, but i will do it again with next oil change because no such thing was done to it prior to me owning, bought from my brother at 188k miles, 2&1/2 yrs ago.
