dont like that comparison, put a 4th gen beside a 3.5 chrysler 300C, of coarse the newer car wins, now i think a redesigned 4th or 5th gen with options like 7th gen, the both earier versions take the cake, but it's how the car market is leaning towards.... im disapointed, bmw 335i, 08 tl and tsx, not to mention the years best new generation cars to me (though not in this category) the jaguar would get my business before nissan (unless its an 07 alti SER), it just blend in to the rest of newer cars

Sorry, this is a Maxima forum and many older gen owners are quick to bust on a 6th Gen+ (and now the new 7th gen) so I'm keeping my opinion within the Max category, your analogy opens an endless thread that can never be resolved...

Of all the cars you listed most cannot out perform the 6th Gen Max, the new 7th Gen IMO will only shorten the gap!!! Who cares whither you doubt it or not, this car WILL SELL!!!

But I do respect your opinion, this is just mine!!!

i dont disrespect your either, and no a 6th gen wont out do a 335i, nor the tl or accord nor the turbo volvo (well not stock), but to not even prolong a pointless argument, i think like in 2010 do a SER with VQ37 and about $7500 difference with same hp as G37

Please remove TL and accord from your flawed list, I waxed them all day long when I was stock, 335i well for 15K more than a Max it should be, I personaly leave them in a dust seeming how I have leveled the playing field since I'm turboed also and still about 7K under cost.

your point??????????????, i got my 5th gen for 4.1k and can get it to wax yours for less than what used 6th gens sell for now dont know where your headed with this, accords and tl-s runs better stock times (unless you go year for year)... how is the playing field level with boost vs NA??? so your telling me the only way to keep up with any of the stated above cars is to boost?

I kinda agreed with you but below is my rating:

scale of 1-10
1st gen- 3
2nd gen- 3.5
3rd gen-6.0 (nice boxy design, our 87' Maxima still running @ over 200K miles)
4th gen-7.5 (cheap rear torsion beam w/15" standard steel wheel)
5th gen-8.0 (cheap rear torsion beam)
5.5th gen-8.2 (bigger engine still cheap rear torsion beam)
6th gen-7.8 (funky grill design)
6.5th gen-7.9 (better revised grill design)
7th gen-8.0 (high base price)

toucansma - I understand that many folks have a problem with any CVT-powered vehicle being called a 4DSC. There will be those who would NEVER consider anything but a manual tranny to be a 4DSC. For many long-time Maxima owners, it seem almost blasphemous to used the '4DSC' term with this 7th gen.

In trying to look at this from Nissan's point of view, I suspect they have determined that the long list of changes they made to the 7th gen suspension have made this a very good handling car, and good handling is perhaps the most important aspect of a '4DSC'.

If handling on this car turns out to be average, then Nissan will have abused the term '4DSC', and will be punished for that by car mags and the buying public. If, however, this proves to be a very sweet-handling car, especially at speed, then the public will accept usage of the '4DSC' terminology, and the car will sell well.

We will probably have our answer as soon as the car mags have run their tests.

On your first comment, I can buy a used Pinto and get it to wax yours for less also, doesn't change the quality and class of the vehicle. Next, Accords and TL's cannot out perform a stock 6th Gen (6MT, LSD without CVT), don't know where you pulled those facts from so maybe your original statement should have been year to year verse make a general statement and throw all these cars of different classes into the mix.

And last, the playing field is level because in your list you included a BMW 335i (Turbo) and Turbo Volvo, Dah...

BUT, since you are a Maxima owner, I still got much love for U....

Eh, I was initially. Not a fan of the tail again this generation, but it is more characteristic of nissan, which I'll take over the 6. However, the design has grown on me alot more quickly than the 6th gen did.

Im not dissapointed at all, the 6th gen isnt even as good looking as a pontiac bonneville. Thats why i got a 5.5 gen.

But really in theory the only things that could dissapoint me are things i must evaluate in person
IF???
1: Plastic Valve covers
2: They didnt shorten the turning radius
3: They took away my heated steering wheel
4: Torque steer still changes lanes without your approval

I love the styling and the G35 NAV/IPOD controls and HVAC. However Im betting that the creep in price will no doubt have me staring at a choice between a G35 S 6 speed or The 7th gen Max. And if the price comes within 2 grand, give me the G keys please.

Why are you guys saying "high base price" for the 7th gen? Do you already know the base price from Nissan?

well if your going on specifics 6th gens wont out do the 6mt tl-s stock, and last review i watched 6th gen max out did the accord in only 0-60 category... that turbo for turbo comparison is weak, thats like comparing a tuned aftermarket turbo vs like a jetta 1.8t boo... i also got love for maxima owners and will always choose a max over any acura/honda in its class...

Good take lightonthehill. I myself have no problem with a vehicle with a CVT being called a 4DSC. I like the CVT and do not understand the hate towards it. I just got a little sick of Nissan constantly repeating 4DSC. It reminded me of the overuse of the word HD today.

Hopefully Nissan's reviews and tracks scores come out positive.

I think it's a seasonal thing... remember when HD used to mean "High Density"?

A completely redesign with that many new features and upgrades...one can make an educated guess that the 7th gen is more expensive vs the 6th gen.

Maybe our CRAPPY economy will prove me wrong.

Or maybe not. Nissan made signficant upgrades to the 2009 Murano, yet the base price has been lowered by $1,500 over the previous model.

Hope that is the case with the 7th gen Maxima...but I still think the 7th gen base price will be slightly higher...we'll see.

Overall I like the car, I give Nissan credit for making it look so Infiniti like, fingers are crossed it handles like a 5 Series, but I was kind of hoping it had an AWD option and a larger engine, the VQ with 290 is more then fine but another VQ with 315hp would have been sweet and they could have added Brembos Avalons are 40k cars and the redesign is probably gonna add all the features the 09 Maxima has, I use to see Nissan as the leader in taking chances and doing something 1st, now it's sort of like Nissan does just enough to keep up with the others.

The car looks great but at the same time it looks like it could get lost in the sea of competition, I'll let the test drive speak for itself but at this point there are more then a few other cars on my radar

I feel it is most important that this new Maxima be a very good handling car. If it gets rave reviews in the handling category, that will be the most important 'WOW' we could have hoped for, and everything else will be accepted and the car will sell very well.

I like the 7th gen a great deal; it has gotten back on track.

I can't see how people are disappointed with the 7th gen that looks more Maxima-like than the horrid science-experiment-gone-wrong, 600 miles of ugly, 6th gen.

Great, another fool has to try and diss the 6th Gen to make a point about the 7th gen. Why do you idiots think it's OK to insult hundreds of members on this forum to make a point about something you dislike!!! Grow the **** up fools!!!

I love my fat *** beast!!!

Thank god where I roll, most people don't have smart *** comments about 6th Gens. In hindsight, mine doesn't look like the fattest in the bunch? But who cares, the DC, MD,VA, and NYC crew's roll regardless!!!

Your Maxima looks very sharp. You've tastefully improved it.

You have a 6.5 gen. Those are a vast improvement over the genetic error of the 6th gen.

I think it's a great step back in the right direction for the Maxima idea and shape; it vaguely reminds me of the classic 3rd gen Maxima. All I'd ask for is a true 6MT. I'm loving they've got the Independent Rear Suspension back in there. Great job.

Dude chill out.

Whatever your car is, it has the improved front. You've done good things to your ride. I thought the 6.5 gen was the refreshed/more aggressive exterior model. Guess I was wrong

You've got to admit, the very first issued 6th gen is just gawful, like a balloon looking for a clue. Sorry, my friend.

I actually am liking the 6th gen more and more each day. People seem to forget that the nissan maxima is a family sedan with a kick, not a race car. Nissan has to make cars in accordance to fit what the general public likes/needs/looks for.

Why don't you guys use "IMO" more frequently? Is it such a difficult thing to do? By typing those three alphabets in appropriate places, one can refrain from hurting many others and still voice his/her opinion freely.

BTW, the 6th gen Maxima has been the largest selling Maxima ever. So it doesn't matter what some of you guys think, the numbers speak for themselves.

I looked up 2004 Maxima SE; it has the (IMHO) visually challenged/ downs syndrome front end.

Apparently they changed the 6th gen only in 2007 to the much improved angular sport look --the way it should have looked to begin with.

The very differences you respect about the 5th Gen and below are now being realized by the 6th gen with body kits, performance modes, handling kits, electronic upgrades, etc which bring us into the same performance and handling characteristics as our older brothers, maybe if you did your homework about your fellow brothers you would not be so quick to slam those of us who are capable of smacking you down on the street or the track. My Motto: Engage brain before engage mouth!!!

Check out less than an 8th of our DC, MD, VA crew, nothing is alike, and no ones dissing either!!!

Everyone rolls as a Maxima community...

I agree with you but I don't in any way feel the original 6th gen is acceptable. Were it so, you would have kept it's front sheet metal but instead you modified it to reflect a better design (and what you did beyond that is as well very tasteful --a nice surprise-- as you maintained a very clean level of higher taste standards, making your Maxima into a racing trim Nismo theme. I'm glad you did not hop on the bandwagon adding the obligatory "24 inch" chrome rims that look absolutely ridiculous).

I do like your car and I do like the 2007 refresh. I should have added that before I blanketed my statements. In this way, I apologize.

That said, I will drop the issue as I feel I have made my position clear.

Dear Nissan,

Shoot the Muthasucka who took the pics for you. They damn near caused a "catostrophic event" around this joint. My thoughts now are, Nissan spent more into making the car than "marketing the car".. Because them 1st pics that came out had me ready to smack the 1st Nissan salesman I saw, on site.

This Maxima looks nice and IMO, and I owned a 2004 and I wanted a 2000, this is by far the best looking one, for me. Them rear quarter curves make me think I'm looking at my wife's hind parts. She got bass... Wondering what the New Maxima would look like with some Apple Bottom jeans on her... WHOA!

I do like your car and I do like the 2007 refresh. I should have added that before I blanketed my statements. In this way, I apologize.

That said, I will drop the issue as I feel I have made my position clear.

Well I have an original 6th Gen (2004 3.5L SE purchased in July of 2003). On other matters, Great we cool then... I hold no grudges for Maxima brothers!!!!

Nice. If you're ever out in Los Angeles, PM me your info and we can meet up. I'm good about that. I have an online mate on http://clubscuderia.com/forum/ coming out and we've been PMing; just called him in England this morning.

I have a few cars, could advise you on where to go, have a beer. I know places to see awesome gatherings of all kinds of cars. You'd be busy
