i meant the 7th gen, it's sales have been quite impressive. and the body lines are what I love, that run down the hood and go up to the roof.

the car looks great but there are a few things i would change, the rear is perfect with the factory spoiler, 19s are a plus. the front is what i would have changed, i would have made the hood be more straight instead of going on an incline to make it more aggressive looking, sort of like an srt8 charger. my opinion

I'd make 19s optional on the premium, and led DRLs. When the max first came out i hated the way the headlights were shaped, but now i love em.

Auto-folding mirrors (newer homes have narrower and narrower garage doors), splash guards that actually work (the Nissan ones are purely cosmetic), an additional half inch of ground clearance (I can't clear speed bumps), a more controllable steering wheel heater (it gets very hot, then essentially turns off) and a TPMS system that works (this feature did get added with the 2012) are all I need to make my '09 perfect.

Stylistically? I wouldn't change a thing. I am still getting raves from strangers on a car built in September of 2008. Just Friday, when I lucked out and got a parking space right in front of the Honey Baked Ham store where we eat every other week, the store owner went to the front window, looked at my beautiful '09 premium (he had seen me parking between a Lexus and a BMW), turned to me and said 'New car? VERY nice car.' If anything, the styling of the 7th gen Maxima is ahead of its time.

Maxima's have been ahead of there time in a lot aspects for many of the Gen's from styling to performance, more recently the competition has closed the gap considerably. Ex.the 3rd gen was ahead of its time for styling and had a nicely designed high quality interior and its styling still looks good over 23yrs after it was introduced in late Oct 1988! No near luxury/sporty sedan from Japan matched the feature content of a loaded 89 GXE that year (HUD, electronic everything, including the suspension), the Cressida came close but the then Acura Legend didn't even match it.

Scanning the bios of those peeing on the 7th Gen's looks I see that none of them own one. So whatever...

...oh yeah and all that new technology in the 7th isn't any good either, right?

true, the splash guards are worthless. a controllable heated wheel and the updated TPMS system would be great I agree.

some people may not like the 7th gen's looks but you cant deny that a great deal of people do like them. anytime I take the car places people make comments on "how far Nissan has come" or "wow is that a Nissan?". When I first got it my coworkers were asking about it, and these were all owners of luxury brands (BMW, Benz, Lexus). One of them owns a 7th gen now, and the others have at least gotten rides in it.

owners of older year model maxima owners always come lurking here and hating on everyone.

it's funny because we a35 owners never ever bother with going to the 5th gen, 6th gen forums and so many of them are always here.

that's all there is to say about that.

It Grows on You

I have to admit, when the 7th Gen came out, I was nowhere near considering it to replace my Altima. After seeing them on the roads more and more and getting different angles to look at, I got hooked.

The car, imo, has a "sophisticated" appearance. Not wanting to be too sporty nor too luxurious (which is what Nissan is aiming for anyway). Or you can say, as the TV Ad showed, it's a family version of the 370Z.

I actually love how the tail lights are very unique that when you see one ahead on the roads, you know there is a fellow Maxima driver up ahead. Can't say that much with the luxury cars because after a while, Audi, BMW and Mercs all start using the same light scheme just like the headlights and the LEDs strips underneath.

The fluid body shape is what I like the best. I will never forget my brother thinking that there was a dent in the car the first time he saw my car. He was surprised at how the car managed to take on that shape by the doors.

The way I see it, you have to like the car overall in order for you to drive it daily. There are some missing components that we all gave up on for something we were surprised to have with this car. I suppose I'm spoiled driving a loaded premium but at least I can still say despite the extras within the car, I still get a grin whenever I get out of the car and see how sweet it looks outside.

same here, I have the option to drive other cars for my daily needs but I always opt for the a35 because it's just so fun to drive.

the car is hot.

And you do realize that 4 years later that the thread that constantly gets bumped back up are the premium vs regular gas/no manual transmission/wax to use etc/

Just because it's 4 years old doesn't mean everyone likes the car nowadays - heck, I'm sure someone other than me on this thread hate most of the external changes to the current year model (I like the new dash LED Color)

Sure isn't. I will say that the poster (rcjunkie) who pulled this thread out of the 2008 dumpster was not just trying to build his post count. He joined the board in 2005, and still has only 21 posts. That is at the rate of around three posts a year. Maybe he will pop in here again along about May.

7 Gen is amazing! If you bought it or leased it and don't like it then what was the whole reason getting it? I love it and the way I designed my car I make everyone turn their heads around especially the sound!

I have owned a 92 Maxima SE and still own an 03 Maxima SE. Love both cars. After that didn't care much about the styling of the Max. Now the 7th gen I think looks great. The rearend could use some reshaping. I think it looks like crap without a rear spoiler, but the rest of the car is awesome. Glad they slimmed it down from the 6th gen because it was getting just too big for my tastes.

The side profile really stands out. I like seeing my car via the reflection on store windows as I'm driving by or stopped. This car gets more stares because there is not that many in my area. I mostly see the Lexus IS & Altimas. This car has a far more aggressive & sportier look than the Altima.

I strongly disagree. I think all gen Maxima's are cool. They seem to never go out of style. Too many cars look like something already, the 7th gen has a unique look, there's nothing like it out there and for that I love it.

Been a long time member here, don't need to build my post count; what for anyway? I use the search function and find what I need. As stated I dug this up because I came accross it during my research before purchasing my 3rd Maxima. I liked the 7th gen right off the bat. I've owned a 92 Maxima SE, and a 2002 SE for 10 years. I really enjoy my 7th gen. Just found a few posts in the past regarding the looks of the 7th gen hence this thread. The OP had a pretty catchy title that caught my attention. I figure its been out awhile and maybe some other Maxima owners may have changed their tune on the styling for better or worse it doesnt matter. For me the headlights were the only thing i wasnt used to but they grew on me.

See you all in...May?

The car is jaw-dropping the moment you add the factory spoiler and stillen front lip. Though in my opinion, just like the 6th gen, the rear looks horrible without a spoiler.

Btw I do see a GT-R-cousin-resemblance

rcjunkie - Just in case you may have not fully understood the intent of my post, I should explain:

We have had posters pop up here on occasion and bring up dozens of unrelated very old posts for seemingly meaningless reasons. That moves all current threads off the front page, and is annoying to mods and members.

But my post was simply saying that your low number of posts over a long period of time on the board indicates your bringing up that old thread was done for a truly serious purpose, and not just yanking the board around.

I think the 7th Gen Max is the best looking of the bunch. Its lines and curves look sports car-ish to me much more than its predecessors. My second choice with be the 6th gen. Talk about not-attractive rears I think the 5th Gen rear is about as plain as it gets. For a 4 door sedan I think Nissan had a great vision. If you look at the US Le Mans GT cars--this car has many similarities in form; particularly to the Jaguar XKR.

So I want to ask the question. What 4 door car is the best looking to you? I think we'll see how things vary for people.

I think my top choice would be the Lamborghini Estoque. Next up would be the Aston Martin Rapide. I find I'd still like to flare out the rear of the Aston Martin to look more like our Max.
