Well, I sold the TSX retrofit HIDs (too much $$$ to say no). If I had to do it again, I would buy spare headlights first, so I'm not rushed, but they cost too much (even if you sell the old ones afterwards). So it may be sometime, before I run this setup again.

It appears that Nissan only makes one combination headlight for both Halogen and Xenon applications. The big difference is the bulb spacer/attachment hardware. The halogen has a standard twist in bulb holder, whereas the Xenon has a standard spring clip D2S bulb holder and backing cover plate. Any 3/4th Gen Mats/Panasonic ballasts should fit in the bottom recess under the headlight (need bulb holders with integrated starters).

Having realized that the same headlight (and I suspect same projector) is used for both halogen and xenon apps, I decided to try adding a H11 HID conversion (rebased bulb) kit. The ballast won't fit in the recess under the unit, but there are many others easy to access places to attach it.

As most people know, I'm a big advocate for complete retofits with projectors designed for HIDS. Having said that, the beam pattern is more narrow than the TSX projectors, but doesn't produce much, if any, glare. Certainly usable, albeit not as high end looking as the TSX retrofit. The bulbs I used came from VelocityGetter and the xenon capsule sat 0.5 mm too far into the projector. Didn't produce glare, but produced almost too much color. My camera seems to have a hard time capturing the color and violet flash effect that the human eye sees. Anyhows... here's the pics:

The HIDs look real good on these cars and they make the car standout more too, IMO the stock headlights are a little too dim so any improvement over them is a worthwhile modification.

Thanks for the comments. I know I was curious and just wanted to let others know that it looks hard to get at the lights, but it's really not that bad. I've always been against putting HID rebased bulbs into halogen lights but these, the MDX and one set of Hella's (only read about them) seem to be dual use projectors that can be used for both applications. They aren't the best at either, but they are a fair compromise. The wiring is also the same between the halogen and Xenon packages in our Maximas so you don't "need" a wiring harness either.

 

You max looks mean or sinister at night ( I like). Do drivers tend to move out of your way on the highway at night with the new setup.

 

Funny you should ask that. No normally they don't, but two nights ago the roads thawed and I could actually open her up on the highway. There were cars in both lanes about 15 car lengths ahead of me when I floored it just to see how it feels. LMAO! I guess the front of my car popped up causing the drivers ahead to see a bright blue flash in their mirrors and the signs ahead. Brake lights came on and the guy in the left lane quickly signalled and pulled over as I shot past. Didn't really intend on passing, but hey the opportunity was there and it was the first time I really got to experience the CVT/engine at speeds over 140 km/hr (freaky). Mean white car, blue flashing .... cop??? Ear to ear grin!
