How many mpg are we really getting?
Ive had my 09 max for about a couple of months, and ive noticed that im only getting about 170 miles to the tank, im in stop and go traffic everyday , where every other block is a stop sign or traffic light. Just wanted to know, how many miles to the tank are you guys getting with your 09's?

that is about 8.5 to 9 miles to a gallon of what you get. Your car have a leak somewhere in the tank or is it dump 2/3 of it tank on the ground?

Wow! You might want to get your MAX checked out. I average 24-27 MPG with mixed driving. I currently have 11450 miles on her purchased 19 Sep 08. I can't wait till I move back to San Antonio where I can get 92 octane again, only have 91 here in MO.

ya thats what i calculated about 9 miles to the gallon, its all city miles, i rarely take my max on the highway. But i am gonna bring it in to the dealer , maybe have them take a look at it.

'170 miles to the tank' doesn't really tell us enough. Depending on where I am, and the fequency and dependability of encountering gas stations, my fillup varies from 14 gallons to 18 gallons. That is a wide variation.
The only way to measure gas mileage is to divide the miles driven by the gallons used. And this has to be done over a period of several tankfuls to have any real accuracy.
I have been getting around 16 to 18 in tough city traffic, around 18 to 20 MPG in normal city traffic, around 20 to 22 in light city traffic, 22 to 24 in mixed city and suburban, 24 to 26 in mixed surburban and highway, 26 to 28 in mixed highway and freeway, and 28 to 30 on hilly open freeways. I expect to exceed 30 MPG when I have the chance to drive long trips on level open interstates. Driven carefully, this new CVT can deliver great gas mileage.
I do not expect to get good MPG in this car in tough city traffic, because our '09 has a 290 HP engine, and has to get 3600 heavy pounds of car moving at every light.
As info, I feel sure everyone on the ORG uses premium gas in this high-compression '09 engine.

On my trip I'm getting about 245mpt dont know about the city and highway thing though. Keep in mind this is with a catback exhaust, and an intake and i'm getting this kinda gas milage. Also when I use the shell nitrogen gas I am getting around 265 ish with 90 more miles left on the Range Indicator

Since some here are still dealing in 'miles per tank', the best I have done measuring that way was 462 miles between fillups on a trip to the beach back in April. The fillup was 17.2, which means two things: I got 26.9 MPG (in mostly interstate, but some local driving), and I could have probably gone about another fifty miles (that would have been over 500 miles on a tank of gas) before going dead in the water.
BUT
There can be several very serious (and expensive) consequences for running out of gas in this car, and we would be very foolish to do so. So I seldom have fillups of more than 16 or 17 gallons, with 15 to 16 gallons being the most frequent amount.

I am really glad about this thread and have been reading it closely, because I do not really like what I get from a full tank of gas. Though I drive but an 08. I bought my 08 brand new and I have always been using 93 octane and with my full tank of gas, pulling all 3,591 pounds of metal and all 255 untamed horses under the hood, I get only 360miles on a full tank of gas. That is in mixed driving.
I see people writing their mpg. I am more interested like he (1sik4dsc) is expressing..., how many miles do you get from a full tank of gas.
If I get 360, I am wondering if the 09 with more horses and more weight might do about same like my 08 on a full tank of gas. Or maybe even less than 360. This is hopefully for a car that is still stcok. No mods in the engine.

I track my mileage in a log book and calculate the mileage on a per tank and running average on an Excel spreadsheet so I can graft it. (**** I know but I use the same logbook for keeping track of tire rotations, oil changes, etc.)
I am averaging over 24 mpg and that is mostly in town driving. To make it worse I live in a very hilly area with almost no flat roads. I expect the mileage to get better once the engine is broken in and I make the switch to synthetic oil. I am also surprised on how accurate the in-car mileage reading is, +/- 1 mpg.
I tried to attach the spreadsheet but no go. I will try another way to do it.

John, John, John. The non-synthetic oil is absolutely fine for this '09. And I am not the type to use premium gas because I think it enhances my car's performance.
BUT
87 octane?
I have eventually used regular in all my Maximas dating back to 1984. But this '09 is a different breed of engine and fuel system, and has the highest compression ratio we have ever had in a Maxima. Nissan only RECOMMENDED premium fuel in Maximas through the 6th generation, but with this '09 engine, they SPECIFICALLY SPECIFY PREMIUM FUEL ONLY. They also say that if you HAVE to use 87 in an emergency, to get only the amount absolutely necessary, then drive VERY GENTLY to the nearest place you can find the CORRECT (PREMIUM) fuel.
This '09 engine/fuel system has to make significant compensations in order to run on 87 octane with no knocking. Not only is your engine not running as designed with 87 octane, but in the long run, I feel this will not be good for this '09.
My suggestion? If you insist on using regular fuel, trade this '09 in on a well-cared for '08. The '08 engine can much more easily adapt to regular gas.

While this is a very nice car to drive, the monthly payments takes away almost all my enjoyment. This is a lease and I am just waiting for the 39 months to be over.

Anyway, I do not want to spend a penny more than I have to on this car. So no premium fuel.
yea i dont blame you, if you really want to get rid of your lease try putting it on swapalease.com, and see if someone wants to take your lease over. Its worth a shot

I get about 23mpg mixed driving.
