navigation update

anybody know what installation procedure for the navigation update? i see on navteq website it is priced at $200. ... im wondering if its a dvd that we are purchasing the the dealer loads into the system... and if it is a dvd... anybody know if it is possible that the software would be online.. (torrent or rapidshare). im not to fond of paying for software unless im making money from it

I have an 07, and from what i understand the DVD for the NAV goes in behind the lower flipup compartment in front of the gear shifter. I know mine's a little out of date for a hand full of roads, but for the most part it still works great. Yours is anywhere from 2-3 years newer, you sure you need to update it already???

You have to buy from them and a dealer has to do the install. The nav is not DVD based. It is loaded onto the navigation hard drive.

i want the update since 8.2 is out and there are a few places that are out of date on the navi that may be updated..

as far as the instillation .. does the dealer use special software to load it on (no windows based os) or coudnt the harddrive be removed and installed from my pc..

This is the guide for a 2007 Infiniti G35.

I would wager that the Infiniti method is also how they upgrade the max. The navigation system looks the same. So the C3 (posh word for "computer" by the looks of things), could be replaced by a laptop, and you would need to get that software that Nissan has for doing the upgrades.

The data transfer is completed using a USB to Compact Flash adapter. I've not seen them before, but in a quick search I threw up this. Looks pricey at $199 - we could probably do better.

Another good find. We are getting closer, to getting this done ourselves.

You go to the upgrade site, pay the money and they give you a code that Nissan uses to install the up grade. It is a hard wire install off a laptop the dealer has. No dvd on the 09 model it goes to the hard drive.

Yeah, we are aware of that. We are attempting to find the software, interfaces and such, to be able to it ourselves, because Nissan will basically charge outrageous prices to do the upgrade.

No, this only a Nav Map upgrade, not a software upgrade.

it would be nice if they did a software update to change the graphical interface at least... the current one looks sooo cheap .. it doesn't look like they hired a good designer to do the interface...

speaking of.... do u think the interface could be customized kinda like how the old iphone hacks used to allow custom graphics once u accessed the firmware?????

... i mean its a hard drive for crying out loud .. and most companies uses windows to apply their custom software.. so the architecture of the navigation operating system should be accessible by windows computer

My dealer told me there is no charge for the install you just get the code and they put the code in the laptop and it does its thing. I don't know how you are going to hack on Nissan's computer net work to get it to work. I have gotten coupons from Nissan for the upgrade at $150.00.

I would love to get the XM weather! Hope they can make an update for that.

I hope that all our dealers would be that way, but I am sure there are some that are more "Stealership" than a dealership.

My father is trading in his 2007 Maxima for a 2009 Murano. He likes my 2010 nav screen. The dealer stated that he can upgrade the software on his 2009 to be just like the 2010 Maxima. Anybody know if it is just that simple? Can it be done?

I hope so. That's what most of us are looking to do. I feel cheated that the 2010 max has such a better GUI and we 2009ers can't get it...
