You getting an auto or manual, if auto make sure that it has the 7spd auto as I believe some later 08's have it. It is so much better than the 5spd auto, I love it in my Z.

Apples and oranges. V8 with 380 HP? That is not an economical family sedan; that is a car Exxon-Mobil would love everybody to drive. The 6 cylinder Genesis is not as fast to 60 MPH as the '09 Maxima. Consumer Reports says: 'This is not a sports sedan. The cars weak link is its somewhat nervous ride.'

I grant you the Genesis warranty is longer, and that is to be commended. But I saw one at a distance while driving through a parking lot last week, and asked my passenger if it was an Accord. We were both surprised to find out it was a Hyundai. I find the styling unusually nondescript; not unattractive, but very bland. Now if I was a spy, and wanted to travel incognito, the Genesis might just be the ticket.

Im in the market for a mid size sedan. I looked at the maxima, genesis, and g37x, and so far I prefer the maxima hands down. I test drove all the above cars and the max is calling my name!

I know this is a few days old, but Id still like to comment.

I work for Nissan, and we also have an Infiniti dealership so I have access to these cars all day long...( I also currently drive an 09 max). I personally would choose the Max. Not to say its a better car, but because it's a newer, fresher design, where as the M, has been out for a few years, and though refreshed for 08 its starting to become slightly dated. On top of that there is a new M due out for 2010, which will undoubtably hurt the resale value of the previous gen...no much though.

They are both great vehicles, and obviously car for car, the M is the better of the two...but the max being brand new vs the M being pre owned, I think the max is the better choice. Warranty alone is big, then the fact that you KNOW how this car was driven and taken car of from day 1 is also huge.

If badge status means alot to you...get the M of course, if you can look past that, I would get the max.

I had a similar discussion with my self, my loaded Maxima won the debate hands down, despite the M being a very nice car.

In your case you are talking about a nearly 2 year old model-year car vs brand new, for the same price, which for me would end the discussion.

If you disregard the Infiniti badge for a moment, the numbers just don't add up IMO when you compare the features of M35 to a loaded 2010 Premium Maxma.

The styling of the Maxima compared to the M35, IMO, the Maxima is a far sexier car, and there is no doubt when you sit in a loaded premium Maxima, that you are sitting in a luxury car. When you drive it, there is no doubt you are in a sports car.

Thanks

Maxima has always enjoyed a certain 'duality' - a unique fusion of sedan practicality with the soul of a sports car. The 2009 Maxima features a low, squared-off grill, swept-back, split headlamps and an aggressively curvy rear end. Its interior clearly draws inspiration from the Infiniti M35 and M45 sedans, including a round control **** mounted high on the dash.

Maxima

So everyone knows nissan makes infiniti so anyone saying the maxima wont last as long, they use a similar if not the same ENGINE and PARTS.. but the maxima looks better and they're remaking the style of m35 which means value will drop on m35, and everyone thinks nissan drop value so quick, not really, just the same as a car that holds the value well, especially the maxima.. so I'd choose the maxima depending on the price difference.. bc I think they have a classy look but can look like a race car if needed, and they should make a 2 dr maxima, it would look like a bat mobile (:

The M35 is bland and anonymous. There's nothing distinctive or interesting on the outside. It's also slower than the Maxima from a roll. It would have to be; it weighs 400 lbs more, has a less efficient transmission, and 15 less HP.

But it's also a better car. Handing is a level above, especially if you push it. Interior quality is higher. And some foolish people will judge you by the badge on the front.

Personally, I'd look hard at a Lexus GS350 before both of them. It's faster, smoother, and has more expensive styling and better interior trim. The Genesis is also a compelling alternative.

I work for a large infiniti dealer in north nj and I drive a 2010 maxima..
I leased and picked the maxima over a g37x because size, ac seats and a heated steering weel. To whoever said that the max Handles better then the m35x are dead wrong.. The maxima handles like crap compared to any infiniti the ex35 or fx35.. The max has most it weight up front where the infiniti had front midship platform so the weight is distributed a lot better. And to who said that the maxima is better in the snow they are also wrong because the Infiniti is 50/50 front and rw power in the snow in the x models..
The maxima is a great why cruiser but lacks handling , my cl type-s seemed to handle turns better but I did not buy this car to autocross..the technology in the maxima is same as in the g37x the nave and buttons and suprisingly the grace note also works better in the maxima , my maxima picks up burnt cd titles where the infinite does not onnthe same disk, might just need to be upgraded.. Bottom line was that even though the sticker on the g37x was only 2 k more then the maxima the lease was $60 less a month and insurance was $20 less for me and the maxima is bigger .. Comparing it to a 08 m35x would depend if it had tech package which adds surround sound (speakers in seat) and radar cruise control and ldw if it had that then the Bose radio would be better then the maxima but if not then the maxima has a better sound system.. Also the m35x had no USB and I believe 08 was the first year that the nave was hdd and not cd so it does have a music box "(I belive) but grace note in 08 is horrible can't be punching in song names every time I put a cd on HD .. And I am not really sure if the m35 went to HD in 08 or 09.. And the Only reason the m35 was a little loud was the horrible tires they came with stock, but a swap in tires would get rid of 80% of the noise all the car mags complained about..

I'd choose the Max over the M35 simply b/c the Maxima has a much more aggressive sporty body style and looks much fresher. The interior is only a slight downgrade and if your get the Max loaded with premium and tech, you get several luxury sedan features you still can't get even in the new M!

I looked HARD at every Infiniti option before making my Maxima purchase. Both are great cars, but bottom line is it comes down to personal plus's and minus's.
Like Smokey Robinson said, "I second that emotion"!!

I agree with you bro for all the same reasons, the M is a very nice car but I'm always the skeptic when it comes to used vs new and with the styling of the Max in comparison to the M then it is Max hands down.

I traded in my base 2007 M35 Sport, no nav or backup camera, for a2010 Maxima SV Premium w/ Tech. The handling on the Sport M35 was great but at a cost. Tires are only good for about 25K miles and that was after I changed out the crappy OEM for a true summer tire. Maintenance on the Infiniti is expense over time compared to a Nissan especially given the same 3.5L engine.

The styling on the 2010 maxima is similar to the new M37 and much cheaper. I pay $200 less per month in a full loaded Maxima over a Base M35 Sport. This is my 3rd Maxima too so no I'm not crazy. I've had 2 96 Altimas', 2000 Maxima GLE, 2002 Maxima SE, 2005 Murano and now a 2010 Maxima. I go through cars like people go through underwear.

The 2010 Maxima definitely has some crazy styling. Just wish it had a manual instead of CVT only. Yeah I know CVT is quicker but sometimes you just like to go old school when driving. After all, any idiot can drive an automatic. Only a real driver can drive stick.

Maybe an m45 over a 2010 Maxima, but not an m35.

The only features u can get in the maxima that can not get in the m37 is rear controls and pano roof, but the m has a lot of tech you can't get in the maxima, like blind spot warning , radar cruise control , advanced braking, trace control, advance climate control system that works great and a lot better Bose system so I am not sure what features the maximamhas that the m does not??

Infiniti m37S FTW. I would take this over my max in a heartbeat, a proper sports sedan with enough room for my family. Never ever take an m35 over my Max but the m37S definitley.

Looking past the badge is nothing to me. IO could've easily got a 3 series Bimmer (with like no equipment) or a c300 benz (also pooly equipped compared to my Max) but I didn't. I care more about bang for my buck than being able to say I drive a certain brand of car.

in all seriousness, i don't know how anyone would pick the infinit G, M over the maxima....and cost so much less to.

the maxima is just a bad *** design, I love the way the quarters and fenders bulge out. that's extreme! I'm surprised the max is not as good a seller as i thought it would be. it's a tough azz ride!

People that are sport orented drivers and "ENJOY" driving would pick the M35 or G35 over the MAXIMA in a heartbeat.. I work at Infiniti but own a MAXIMA.. The maxima is a nice cruiser but LACKS very much in handling .. the G and M corner 2X maybee 3X better at turns.. Turns i would feel safe taking at 80 in the M or G i would not take at 50 in the Maxima.. The Maxima screeches it tires at turns it should be taking at 10MPH more no problem.. Its a sloppy handling car, but I knew that when buying it.. It FWD and all its weight is up front in the car..

Ya know... the 2010 M35/45s on Infiniti lots are being let go with huge discounts... Back in March, my mom picked up an M35x... they immediately took $11k off the sticker... as well as an extra $5k or so. Now that the new 2011 M is more readily available, I'd hit up an Infiniti dealer to see what they can do for a 2010. It's a sweet car.

The M35 doesnt makie my head spin when it comes down the street, Its not agressive enough IMO, also Im not a big fan of the interior, theres so many buttons, and the offset of the touch screen is so far back inot the center console. The m35S or m45 sport look much better though.
This looks too bland to me.

This looks real good.

Me too. That car really didn't get the attention that it deserved IMO.

Oh, I LOVE the look of the new Max, but the M handles sooooo much better. And, I'm talking "spirited handling" not that lane-change-at-45-on-a-2-lane stuff.
