Funny u should say that, we hav an altima ourselves too, another house around the block has an 09 or 10 maxima, altima and sentra as well. so yea we're rockin the nissan brand, good value for what you get!

Second wax job... this time I did what a member recomended by using blue painters tape
around pin stripes and edges. I tried to find who it was and what thread they posted the
tip in so i could give them the credit but I had no luck. Anyway here are some pics. They
are with a camera phone so they are not the best...

That's alot of work to wax a car. I detailed cars and my secret is to stay away from edges that have rubber and pop the hood and doors to avoid wax splat. I also hand wax the areas with rubber etc first then hit the rest with a 10" orbiter. Works great everytime. Overall its very impressive that you took the time.

Used the leather cleaner and conditioner last night and its perfect low sheen, and smells great.

I always have waxed my headlights! Do others do this too? I have never had any trouble with mine turning yellow, and would recommend others to wax them.

What do you guys do with your headlights? Here are some pics after I had to resurface my truck I bought from my dad and grandpa. They never waxed the truck ever its a 96. So the headlights are yellow and the paint is faded. The final step in this process is basically a polish. Therefore on my other cars I have had with plastic headlights, when I wax the car i always put a coat on the headlights too. Been working great for me so far.

 

They look great! I wax my headlights on my Honda commuter car but their plastic so when you do as much driving as I do they will ultimately turn yellowish and tarnished from the chemicals in the wax. Use water and soap as much as possible on plastic and only use products designed for headlights like headlight restore.

 

What is the best preventative for the headlights? I hate yellow lights!!! I just apply wax to them when I wax the car to try and help from the sun drying them out and turning yellow.

 

Hmm.. see thats what I do also, I haven't had any trouble with them I will have to remember that, just in case I see them getting yellow again. I just figured that if the wax would protect the paint from UV rays, then hopefully it will protect the plastic lenses. Time shall tell i spose The ones that i posted above were already yellowed when i got them.

Worked great! Takes a bit of time, but well worth it. I believe the kit was $20 bucks! I also used the final polish stage of this kit to polish the windows on my truck. They were very very hazy, and now they are crystal clear. I for sure got my money's worth from this kit. PS I also did the headlights for my dads truck too!

 

When I use for plastic lights it Meguiars Plast-x. When ever you do anything cleaning wise just apply it like wax.

 

If they are getting yellow headlights that just means you haven't cleaned them as often as you should be. Unfortunately putting wax on them time after time doesn't really solve anything. To keep them from getting yellow you have to constantly clean them with Meguiar's Plast-x or a similar plastic cleaner, just like tigersharkdude suggested. By constant I mean a few times a year should be good enough. Waxing them often though, inbetween cleanings, will provide some protection.

 

For years I have waxed my headlights, and taillights but I always wash and wax my car, most of the cars I've seen with hazy or yellow headlights usually also have neglected paint jobs, or they are constantly running the car through the car wash and just like the dull finish, they have headlights to match

This will be my 1st summer in ATL, this is an interesting area, still getting use to it, the cars I see daily are coming up on the expiration dates, and some of them are way past

That stuff is great! I have a bottle and have used it on a couple different things. I have a picture in my speedometer area with double sided tape and when i removed it, it left a cloud in the spot it was stuck. It wasnt sticky or anything, it just hazed the plastic. I used the Meguiars Plast-X and it restored it to perfect! I was a little nervous but it came out good. I have also used it on a used car a purchased that had yellow headlights and while it did make it a lot better it didnt make it perfectly clear. I guess it works best for cleaning and preventative maintenance more than total restoration. If it ever got to that point I would have to try the 3M product 2010BlackMax posted. But I will def be using it for cleaning....

I agree, it seems the yellow hazing goes along with the paint fade/oxidation. Poor care and maintenance will def take its toll. I was worried about the headlights because looking at Altimas that are 2003 and about range have HORRIBLE headlights! the same I have noticed on a lot of G35's. This had just made me wonder how well the 7th gens headlight will stack up against this Florida sun I live in... I will continue to clean religiously but time will tell.

I think you are right. My plan of action is going to be to wax around the same time as oil changes and once in between every wax, clean the lenses thoroughly with the Meguiar's Plast-x. Thanx for the advice.

 

Depending on where you live and your case the sunshine state you will most likely not have that problem. The fact that you already waxed your car twice indicates that you unlike others care for you dollars. The G35's I have seen in NY, CT are poorly maintained and the way the lights were placed and designed didn’t help. Wash your car frequently and you should have no problems until you hit over 100k or 6 years of use. Here's a picture of my daily commuter. On the left is before and the right is after. I use Meguairs medium grit cutting compound and red foam pad and then a polish with a variable speed polisher followed by a wax with the orbiter. Rain, Salt, and rock chips are the major contributors to my problem. Don't mind the picture quality I usually take pictures with my BB because its spur of the moment but you can see the difference.

 

My 06 with 65k had perfectly clear headlights, a nick or 2 but overall looked like new, must of been all the hand washing and waxing and spray waxing I did, personally I start to get moody when it passes 3-4 weeks and I have not waxed my car

The method to my sanity is to plan ahead and do small things, check the weather, set aside a weekend every couple weeks, depending on your schedule and other things that occupy your time, and just wash and wax your car, I wash it one day, wax it the next, vacuum the interior, wipe the dash down, do the windows, a clean car makes you happier.

My car is my investment, I take pride in how it looks, but at least I just have the sun, you got love bugs

There is nothing on earth like the sight and touch of a freshly clayed/waxed paintjob.

 

Man I love that feeling. Instant smile on my face much like this one -----> . It makes the 4+ hours of work completely worth it (that's after I run the buffer over it). Lol, then it rains and I look like this ----->

 

If you're vigilant about washing the car every few weeks, when, if ever, does claying become necessary?

 

I only use the clay bar before a major wax to make sure the paint is completely exposed so the wax properly bonds to it.... like 2 or 3 times a year probably.

just got done with the Zaino system. WOW, the best "wax" i have every used. Did everything they said it would. i used to use McGuires, Gold class, but that doesn't even touch this! It rained here the other day, and black car owners know what that is like. Well after the rain and after the car was dry, today i just used their Z6 to wipe it down. Looks like i just waxed it again!!! I have never been able to just wipe off the road grime with a dry rag. It seriously came off like dry dust. I will snap a few pics this evening, and try to get them on here tomorrow.!

Agreed. Without claying you are just putting a protective layer of wax over that road grime evertime you wax and It makes it even harder to wash of those nasty little bumps.

 

I too agree. the zaino system actually had me use Dawn soap to remove all the old wax and grime. then i used their clay bar, then the protective polish.

Amazing! results, i am now a big fan of them. love their leather cleaner, and conditioner a lot too! Hope to get some pics up later today

 

Glad to hear you found a company you like! Personally, I am completely obsessed with Zymol now. I absolutly love their products, they work amazing and are all environmentally friendly and all natural.

 

Dyammnnn, I was thinking of starting to wax my car once I get the backyard again, but then again I don't think I have the energy lol

 

Its worth it in the end. It really is therapeutic. I perfer the garage for waxing. No sun, nice and cool and most important you dont have to worry about the wind blowing dirt and debis onto the car while your giving it a good wax rub causing swirl scratches. egh...

 

Just a sidenote here. Waxing in the sun is the worst thing you can do. Regardless of what it may say on the label no car care product should be used or applied in the sun or on a hot surface.

 

I can think of some things but they cn't be discussed on these forums, lol.
