Your thoughts......

I'm thinking about getting the maxima sv sport (white ext/blk int). Should I bite the bullet and get the '10 or wait for the '11?

Mods will be:

-roof blk painted blk.
-stillen lip
-lowering springs
-change the HIDs to 5000k.

I really want to get tints, including the taillights but I would rather not go through the hassle of getting pulled over for it. Cops around here will pull you over for that.

I'm planning on completing the mods within the first week or so. If you have any suggestions, I'd like to hear them. Thanks!

There will always be something better on the horizon. If you can buy it now, just get a 2010. Or wait for the 11, or the 12, or the 13 or.......

If the 2010 has what you want, go ahead and buy. There's no telling what Nissan may or may not do with the 2011 this far out. Like others have alluded to, you'll end up in a constant waiting game trying to make sure you have the latest and greatest. Outside of possibly some software tweak or another with the infotainment system, I can't see Nissan doing anything else to change the Maxima until the 2012 models. The only reason I waited on the 2010 models as opposed to buying a 2009 was the fact that I never like to buy a car that has just received a major redesign. I'd rather let things settle for a year. That's just me though. Many others on this forum purchased 2009 Maximas with no issues whatsoever.

With the gradually increasing sales success of this 7th gen (sales of the 7th gen started slow due to many reasons already discussed here over the past year), as well as the continued unemployment problem, I am fairly convinced the 8th gen will not arrive until spring of 3013 as the 2014 model year. That could be 3 1/2 years away.

There will be changes for the 2011 'half-generation' model, which should begin production this coming July, and begin arriving at dealers this coming August. But Nissan has given us no clue as to what they will be.

We can be assured there will be exterior cosmetic changes that will enable us to easily differentiate the 2009/2010 version from the 2011 version. There will be at least one color added, and probably one color dropped. There will be mechanical changes of some sort, but probably of a minor nature. Power outside mirrors and auto-dimming outside passenger side mirror would be nice, but who knows? I do not anticipate a non-CVT version. By this spring, we may begin to hear rumors as to what Nissan will change for the 2011, but these rumors are often misguided.

Tough decision.

Light, do you really feel Nissan would do a minor refresh on the 2011 models? I know that with the exception of the 6th gen. previous generations have gotten a refresh at the 3-year mark. You could argue that the 6th gen was an exception but I am thinking it is the new rule for Nissan to wait until the 4th year as opposed to the 3rd year to do a minor refresh considering the economic climate. Thoughts?

I hope the 8th generation 3013s have a cooled steering wheel - what with global warming and all...

But they will still require "premium" sea-water for their fusion packs!

It is a great thing you are considering the 7thgen. Apparently, this is your main concern instead of the mods you already have in mind. Let me tell you what I think...;

Since I know a major purchase like this depends on your available down payment, what you're willing to pay monthly, current job and your credit rating. So, if you have the money now and the great credit, then go ahead and buy now. The 2010 are just getting here, so they are still hot. No point in waiting for the 2011 or else, best to wait for the 8thgen. If you were saying this around August 2010, when the 2010 will be being replaced by the 2011, then, I will say go for the 2011. Or still go for the 2010, because they usually give good incentives to clear the last year inventory.

You did not mention your major reason you would want to wait. So, since the 2010 model comes with all what you want, get it. Why wait for what you don't even know what it will have on it, but that you are sure it will be an upgrade to the 2010?

Get your 2010 now and do your mod in a week, as you said. If you choose to wait for the 2011, then your taste for mod might change too, come that time.

So, the decision is yours. These cars are a beauty. Men, join the club whenever you get ready.

Nissan is currently running 0% on Maxima, so now is a great time to pick one up. As far as changing the 2011 Maxima, I doubt it will be much different. They just changed around some packages and colors for the 2010 models, so I don't think it'll be that big of a change.

other than the 6th gen the 3rd gen was really the only gen. that did not have significant cosmetic changes the 3rd model year, all they changed on the 91 Max was the mirrors and added bright finish to the rims. I do agree with you that the changes will be the 4th model year, ex. Altima. Nissan did not give it cosmetic changes until the 10 model year which is its 4th year in production and still sells like h*ll!

I didn't know about those changes to the 3rd gen. Thanks for the Maxima history lesson. I'm telling my age now but I was still in high school then.

I should right? Hmmm... I think I'll go check out the dealer real soon.

BTW, thanks for all the feedback. When I mentioned the '11's, I was thinking that they'll be released sometime in the early spring (or i could be wrong).

Cars will always improve and we all know that. I can wait and wait until the 2020 comes out with cooled steering wheel and shift ****.

Your synopsis of Nissan's 'modus operandi' is spot on. You could very well be correct that Nissan would wait until the 2012 to make the external changes that would distinguish the 7 1/2 gen from the 7th gen. I have mulled that question over in my mind during the last few months, and chose 2011 as the changeover only because Nissan has usually been using the third year as the 'half' gen until gen 6, and because competition has become so tough every maker is pulling out all the stops to have their products look 'new'. But, as you say, the economic climate has changed drastically, and your suggestion of 2012 could easily prove correct.

Will flux capacitors be standard or optional?

Yeah, they might be hit with the year 3k bug too. Light is special. After he toured the plant, he got the customized one of a kind time travel edition.

As a public service, I would like to warn the the young whipper-snappers here that their life will not stay the same forever. Once in your 40s, there will be times you miss years by one (Oops; that was a 2009 Maxima, not a 2010). In your 50s, the miss is more often by ten (Dang! That was a '98 Maxima, not an '88) In your 60s, the miss is usually by 100 (oops, that really was a 1989 Maxima, not an 1889). In your 70s, the miss can be on the order of 1,000 (Hey! Check out my 3010 Maxima! Well, I'm off to visit my sister on Zeta Retucli).

I will soon be facing the 80s, where month, day and year will all three invariably be wrong every time I type them. I can only hope I am trying to type tham on my keyboard instead of on my TV remote. I have already tried to make a phone call on my TV remote. Growing old is sometimes a little scary. I'm glad I have all the bells and whistles on my Maxima; they often warn me when I am about to make a particularly outlandish mistake.

That right there is why we love you! Witty, resourceful and intelligent and best of all, can take a joke! When I hit my 70s, which doesn't actually seem that far away now as it used to, I hope I'm at least 1/2 the person you are today!
