Intelligent Key VS Lexus Smart Key Access
Intelligent Key VS Lexus Smart Key Access
I was wondering if anyone else was amazed with the way Lexus keyless entry system worked. I was just wondering if Nissan will improve there system to work in a similar manner.
For those who don't know the way the Lexus system works, here is what i experienced. When you approach the vechical from the drivers side the system automatically turns on the puddle lamps which are built underneath the mirrors. Then turns on the driver side interior dome light. Then you simple touch the handle as you go to pull it AND it unlocks and opens. If you wish to unlock all the doors you simple touch the button on the handle. Same thing for a rear passenger door. You approach the door the rear passenger dome light comes on, you pull the handles, it opens. Another feature they have is when you get out the car and walk away the car locks automatically.
Not saying Nissan system sucks because this was one of the major reason i bought the Nissan. You have to touch the button to unlock the door and once that happens the interior lights turn on.
I just hope in the near future Nissan can upgrade its intelligent key system.

Hmm, I'll have to think a bit more about that. The first thought that comes to my mind is how often the doors/lights would be locking/unlocking around me. Every Pass of the mower...every trip to the garage..each bag of groceries. I don't know that I am prepared to "discipline" myself to remove my keys as soon as I get home...and the subsequent fire drill to find them when I need them....well... you see where I would have to makes some changes to my lifestyle.
Well, the Maxima doesn't have 'puddle lights' to turn on. And I don't mind touching the button on the door handle to lock/unlock the doors. One simple touch unlocks/locks all four doors. And I see no purpose in having the inside lights come on until I open the door. And when I walk away from my car after parking it in the garage, I certainly don't want the doors locking automatically. I almost always head back out to the car during the evening or night to put something in or take something out, and I don't want to have to bother with the fob.
I can lock my Maxima from 300 (sometimes more) feet away with the simple touch of the keyfob, and THAT is what I want from MY keyfob.
I guess Lexus drivers are into being pampered more than necessary. The Nissan system fits my needs better.

My old man had an 07 ES350, I don't even remember half the features that car had, as well as how detailed the keyless entry system worked, the puddle lamps where a nice feature, every time I see this feature I see it as more of a visual appearance then an actual useful light.
From what I remember the unlock feature was slow, it's like being from NY (for instants like I am
) and just being around everyone who is fast paced and then moving to Georgia and never being able to get use to the slow pace
So I usually always used the key fob, I want to open the door when I get to it, not 10 seconds after holding my hand their and waiting, especially in the cold or rain, and for the interior lights, every car we have ever owned we set the switch on the inside to center, so when the doors are open the lights are on, so I do not recall any individual lights.
In comparison my 09 Maxima and my fathers 09 FX50S, have almost the same setup as the Lexus, and my father has comment on how he like the button better, mostly due to the unlocking the door immediately compared to the waiting

I like the Nissan system the way it is with the intelligent key; the Infiniti intelligent key works the same way but I think the FX, QX, and EX have puddle lamps that come on when you approach the car with the intelligent key in your pocket just like the Lexus so the more accurate comparison would be Infiniti to Lexus; as pointed out earlier, Nissan's don't have puddle lamps; usually you have to go up to a luxury division to get something like that
anyway, the only thing I wish the intelligent key did but actually its more of a issue with the hinge mechanism of the trunk, I wish that the trunk on the Maxima, Altima, and other Nissan sedans would pop all the way up when you push the button on the trunk lid instead of going only a crack open and till having to use your hand to pull the trunk lid the rest of the way up; it kind of defeats the purpose of having the intelligent key if you still need to have a hand free to pull the trunk lid all the way open (especially with grocery bags in your hands); except for the trunk thing the system works great, though it did take some getting use to after 30 years of having keys to put into the ignition!!

It would have been nice if the car would of had a factory remote start function
I have never really understood what the purpose or real benefit a remote start feature is for a car; I mean you can't start the car till you're about 100 ft from it, typically, and you mean to tell me the car is completely warmed up by the time you get to the car after a minute or two of hitting the remote start so that its really nice and warm in the car rather then just start it regularly and wait for the heater to come on?
maybe I'm just old fashioned but I just have never seem to see the want or need to have a remote start-up on a car
