Window Tint Question

I have the black 09...is this a "good film"

68% Heat Rejection
30% Film
99% UVA & UVB protection
cuts glare by 74%

?? Not sure how dark 30% is..He said it's legal in Texas and it gets SUPER HOT here in the summer--with a black car with black interior is it a good choice?

He said it's top of the line (lifetime nationwide waranty) and I've used him b4 so I trust his opinion but I wanted to ask the Maxima "pro's" for their .02 as well!

Thanks fellas

It sounds like a good film. Did he give the brand of film? If I were you, i'd go a little darker. Id do about 20%. It will look good and keep the interior cool. But remember this, unless you know someone who does inspections, you wont pass on the front windows. Or you could stagger it, put 20% on all the rear windows and do the legal limit on the two front windows. Since it comes with a lifetime warranty it seems like it will last.

I believe I have the 3M stuff. I usually always go with the most expensive stuff, so it doesn't purple out on me. 20% all around, i believe it was $250.00 installed.

Ok Bakaert makes solar-guard which is what i have on my car. Good film, and I have the same warranty. I just wished i would have went 15% all around. I did 15% rear 35% fronts.

Thanks for the feedback..I checked them out side by side and the Johnson has a "brownish" tint to in when placed side by side with the solar guard. The solar guard was also MUCH heavier in comparison.

The woman at the place that deal with solar guard swears its a better quality product and had an old roll of the johnson so that I codl compare.

They advised me not to get it today since the temp is dropping and it will be very cold here over the next few days--advised I wait until next week...

I hope some others chime in as well in the mean time...

I personally wouldnt get windows tinted during the winter. You need some good hot weather to make the tint adhere good. I got a car tinted in the winter once and it never really stuck. I suggest to wait until the spring if you can.

Solar Gaurd is a good brand IMO, I stepped it up to Madico though and couldnt be happier. I got 42%, which meters at about 32% or around there on the window... Just barely illegal for CT.

Hey Max,

I don't know where you are located, but I got mine done at Tint My Ride in Montville. They did a really good job and I love the Madico tint. They deal with Solar Gaurd as well. Another place that is good is Great Scot! in Norwich. They use computer cut tint, not sure of the brand though. Both places have lifetime warantees and do excellent work. Cost should be right around 200. I can look up exactly how much I paid if you want. I think my recipt is in my glove compartment.

Dang An...I was quoted $279 --then was offered the "dealer price" of $249..plus taxes etc..of course for the Solar Guard

I think I need to shop around and see if I can get a better price..

I am in Texas--I wonder if that makes THAT MUCH of a difference

Ya, I would definitly shop around. $249 isn't that bad, but you might be able to find something better.... The place I went had packages starting at $119 at one point. It was for the lowest quality film of course, but still... with all the upgrades and the best film they had (the Madico) I walked out the door for around 200.

Ceramic tint is one of the best especially for heat protection and eliminating any radio interference.

It's expensive but in Arizona we need HEAT protection as well as quality and then looks.

No glare while driving at night, 100% metal free, 100% dye free (won't ever fade), and BLOCKS 70% of SOLAR HEAT!

I only use this company:

thanks Annino, I am in New Haven/Waterbury area, but still appreciate your info. I wanted to get my ride tinted, but became aware of different issues, like rubber dots on front and back windshield and possibly having to remove the door panels. Can you comment on any of these? The last thing I want to do is to have some shop ruin my car
thanks

hey,im a tinter here in NY.sorry i cant help, but i could give advise.if you have a heat issue ,you MUST got 20%,35% wont do much
there are MANY different tint company's,just buy their highest quality line.
most important is find a tinter with MANY years of EXPERIENCE installing tint.computer cut means nothing if you cant install it correct.good luck!
p.s.ceramic tint is most expensive but is BEST

I agree with you on the computer cut thing... Alot of places advertise that, but I ended up going with a place I trusted, and they did it the old fashioned way with a razor blade.

Ok cool, I'm obv. in Norwich.

I didn't have any issues with the dot matrix. The tint stuck to it no problem. They said to bring it back and they'd fix it if it didn't adhere properly. As for the door panels, you shouldn't have a problem. If they know what they are doing they shouldn't have to take anything apart.

I agree with Boone. I had my tints done last month (January in Fl) and it took almost a week for the small spots of water spots to disappear. I accidentally rolled the windows down twice and it didn't affect it but I wouldn't recommend it.

5 on the back/ 15 on the front

Hey guys and dolls,

Got an issue with my tints. Window regulator had to be replaced and was using duct tape to keep window shut. Well removing the tape messed up my tint. Does anyone know how to get that stuff off? I'm hoping it's not that big of a job and that I could do it myself. I've seen some bad tint jobs and I have never done it so I'm wondering if it's something I can do or just pay someone. I'm mostly concerned about the rear window and the defog.

Any suggestions?

my favorite tint film brand is Llumar. Hands down the best. I personally have 20% llumar metallic film on my car and it's still perfect after 6 years. I paid 200 bucks for it if I recall correctly.

Solarguard, Suntek and Johnson are all great brands too, but remember, they all have their low end models as well which generally "suck".

Window Tint

In deciding for the brand and % of tint, I suggest that you consider several options to be able to come up with th best tint for your car. I got my maxima tinted recently, I asked help from www.TintBuyer.com and I'm really happy with the result. They provided me all the information I needed about window tint such as its types, quotations, laws involve in every state and helped me find the best professional tint installer near my area

3M Crystalline

I just made an appoinment to get my new Max tinted with 3M Crystalline. 3M is the only brand this particular guy uses and he is one of the best tinters in my area, but I'm wondering if this is a good way to go.

If you have to go with 3M go with a vendor that resells the "3M FX High-Performance" films much better and come with a lifetime warranty.

I prefer and recommend Huper Optik nanoceramic films, take it from me in Arizona nothing comes close for HEAT REJECTION... So many of these films are just for looks but are horrible at heat rejection, why not have looks and something that performs? I even had my home done with their films and couldn't be happier our summer energy bill last summer was reduced significantly..

Plus ceramic won't interfere with any electronics, mobile phones, GPS, bluetooth, also their product is 100% dye and metal free, total Heat Rejection from 32% to 73%, and high ultra Violet rejection exceeding 99%

Thanks for the info.

I did some more research with the 3M Crystalline and it has a 99.9% UV protection with 1700 SPF, no electronic interference, heat rejection of 50%, 97% infared rejection, 56% glare reduction and lifetime warranty.

I'm leaning towards this dealer because he is the top rated tinter in my area on many websites, he even did Lil' Wayne's Rolls Royce! But maybe I'll look around....
