Leather Conditioners

1st off I really like the leather in the 2010Max SV Sport.. I really like the matte finish of it. This spring I would like to give the leather its 1st treatment. I do not want any shinny finish.

Any comment on any of these leather conditioners?
Zaino Z10?
Nissan / Infiniti Brands???
Lexol
Zymol?

Others? Suggestions, experiences?

I have used Lexol, seems good but not crazy about the smell. I got Zymol conditioner and cleaner for christmas but have not used yet.

Personally, I LOVE the Zymol Treat conditioner. Its $30/bottle but is well worth it.
I use the standard zymol cleaner, then follow up with a coat or two of the treat. Works great.

Always been a fan of the Lexol Cleaner and the conditioner.
I applied both about twice a year on my 01 Passat and after 242,000 miles, the seats (driver mainly) looked great. When I picked up my 2010 Max, that was one of the first things I made sure I did. Clean and condition with the Lexol.

Please read the following:

http://www.303products.com/shop303/i...ve-leather.cfm

It took me a LONG time to realize the truth about this. But my experience with different products and a lot of reading helped my understanding.

The gist is this: Our leather is protected by a thin film of clear vinyl. The vinyl, not the leather, needs to be treated and maintained. It needs to be kept clean, hydrated and protected. 303 AP is one product, I use another locally available product:

http://www.ppcbest.com/formula_2.htm

If I want to refresh that leather smell, I use this, that is made for coated leathers:

http://ppcbest.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=41

Hope this helps!

thanks to all for the information, and the links. Lots of information out there!!!

I have the black interior SV sport seats. What does the products that you guys use look like after applied. Does it look shinny at all??? I do NOT want any shine to it. I really really like the factory Matte finish.

I thought I used Meguires on my TSX and it made it shinny. I'm not sure if that was the brand or not. Anyways i didn't care for it. It smelled good though!

Lexol or that 303 does that have any shine to it? Anybody used Zaino?

Thanks for the help here. Just trying to get some advise before i condition the seats!!!

It says MOST but not all. who's going to do the water drop test?

I'm going to say the SV sport's leather is NOT coated. My previous 2 cars were for a fact coated.

My reasoning: I sat in my old Accord, sweaty and wet (it happens here in Florida ALOT) Sweat would NOT absorb into the seat and it wiped right off easily.

My 07 Max was coated as well. Same thing. Sweat would not absorb and wiped off.

My 09 Max SV I believe is UNCOATED because once again, I sat in it, and the sweat and salt absorbed into the seat then the salt bled back out and caused a problem which I had to work alot to get out. White salt stains on black leather that don't want to to come out is terrible looking. Since then, I don't allow wet, damp or sweaty people sit in the seat without a dry towel under them any longer. The back seat, however, seems to be coated. Kiddo spilled some water back there and it beaded right up with plenty of time to towel it up.

Can you provide a source? I would bet anyone a night with my wife that our leather is coated - including the premium leather.

I have a connection to a friend from college that use to work at Lear Corporation and now Tacle Seating LLC. the supplier of our seats.

Tacle Seating LLC USA is a joint venture seating supplier for Nissan with Tachi S and Lear Corporation located in Mt. Juliet, TN.

I got confirmation last year that our leather doesn't have a leather/polyurethane laminate, or vinyl, etc covering.

Tachi-S pretty much supplies all Nissan Automotive seats:

Does that apply to the standard leather too, or just the sport/premium leather?

Still wanting to know the matte / shinny finish with each cleaner. for those who use Zanio what does that look like? Does it leave the leather shinny or not?

The Z10 conditioner doesn't leave a shiny finish, you end up with a matte finish. Make sure you use the Z9 cleaner first or else your just rubbing in dirt with conditioner.

I've since moved onto Zymol professional line but Zaino is awesome for the price.

This is Z9 and then Z10 treatment on some 911 seats:

I just conditioned for the first time using maguiars gold and I was happy with the finish. I have charcoal leather ( Black is the best leather ) and from the factory it is real flat and with a hint of grey. The maguiars deepend it to the dark black I love with just a hint of gloss. The leather is not greasy at all and smells awsome. I went from a factory ashy black to a deep black so I was happy with the product. How it affects other colors I'm not sure.

FWIW, I did the water drop test this weekend. I set three big drops of water on my passenger seat. I went inside and came back out about 45 minutes later to see if the water would soak in as it should on naked leather. All the drops were still standing proud. As I wiped the water off, there was no indication that it had soaked in at all, nor was there any change of color where the drops had been - indicating no penetration at all. I have latte seats, so if there had been any penetration, I would think I would have had dark spots.

Thanks for the information. Just a hint of gloss with the Meguiars... I may have to check that out. Right now Im leaning toward Zaino unless it has some gloss too. I just want to protect the leather and I don't want any gloss at all!!!! I know i picky.

bye the way the black leather is awesome!!! I would agree with you 100% Love the red stitching too!!!

Try it and let me know how you feel. If you want less gloss, after you apply try taking a clean rag and wipe down where you just conditioned. I noticed where i rub just by driving and movin around is still nice and black with no gloss.

For decades I've been a fan of saddle soap but having tried the Meguiars, I've got to admit it seems to work pretty well. A little glossy at first but it rapidly tempers down in a few days to matte...and a lot easier to apply and remove excess...no stickiness of soapy feel even if applied a little thick.

Thanks for that tip! That is what I don't want. I believe I used meguires on my TSX, and i didnt like that shiny look. Im leaning toward Zanino products as of right now

I do like the Zaino smell, as well as the Duragloss. But neither will last real long because the product will not be soaking through the coating into the leather.

If you don't like the shiny look, Zaino will be fine.

I too am very sure that the leather is coated!!!

Thanks for that remark!!! From what I have gathered that seems to be the way to go! Still open for other opinions though. Just don't want that shinny look to it. on my tsx it looked more aged when you get the shine, then you have the small creases or cracks in the leather that hold the shine and it just magnifies it!

If you believe the leather is coated then just use an all purpose cleaner why even bother with a leather cleaner and conditioner as gizzsdad says it's coated so your just wasting your hard earned money.

Any experience with the Armor All Leather Care Gel on the Maxima's seats? I have used that on my Ford Expedition SUV seats and it seems to work pretty well.

I despise it! Left my seats greasy for weeks. I will gladly give it to anyone who wants to pay for the shipping.

Just used the Zaino leather cleaner and conditioner. Great results. The seats do NOT have any sheen to them. This product smells great and looks great. I am very very happy with the results!!!

I use Lexol. The smell isn't the best but it does work and it leaves my seats with a flat matte finish which I like. I used it on my wifes car and the seats look like new again. Highly recommended.

I don't have the premium package with the actual leather seats, but the SV with cold/tech package and thus the cheaper vinyl interior. I found products that I've typically use like Lexrol and Meguire Cleaning/Conditioners left the vinyl way to greasy because it doesn't breathe and get absorb like a high quality leather interior does.

I found a leather/vinyl cleaner and conditioner by Blue Magic in I think Wal-Mart or PepBoys, I can't remember which one and it has worked great. I really think its meant for vinyl, which the base SV and SV with just tech package has. While it has cleaner/conditioner in there, it is much more diluted then the name brand stuff, like Lexrol, Armoral, Meguires, etc and it wipes away clean leaving no residue and a matte like finish. I usually use it on the seats once or twice a month and it has done wonders for cleaning the base SV vinyl seats!

The sports and premium package have the actual premium leather so I can't speak to what cleans those best but I love this product and recommend it to anyone with the SV who doesn't have the sports or premium package!

It great that I found it, because after the problems I had with the Lexrol and Meguire, I was only able to use warm soapy water to clean the seats off and that didn't clean for a rat's behind!

The TSX seats are actually almost solid in texture similar to the SV seats. If you have the Premium then you may have better results with any of the products because they all depend on application type. I also found this link on a Lexus forum http://www.leatherique.com/ sound like a miracle cure and they claimed factory look rejuvanated.

I don't know what happened to my signature at the end of each of my posts, but I do have the sv sport package, which has the upgraded leather.

What the heck, now its back... I don't know
