"I have something good to say"
After reading through almost every thread in the 7th gen forum, I realized we didn't have a place to say good things about our car or anything associatied with it. If I read this forum for the first time without having owned the car I would say this car sucks. Well I have something good to say about my car, I love it, I love my dealership, and I love my payments. Lotta love their but its so hard to find the 3 together and I have just that. My car has everything I need and looks great stock. My dealership always treats me with respect and has never said oh well. My payments are the same as the money pit of a Jeep GC I traded in and I now have 36k miles of warranty as well. If you have something nice to say, say it here. If you need to disagree please post elsewhere. I want the Maxima to get its praise and everything surrounding it as well. We should help Nissan out by telling them whats good so they can improve it and post our findings so they can fix it,believe me they read these forums.
So far, no problems (knock on wood) for 16 months. And I am very finicky about things working right.
The only real problem I have with this car is that everytime I go anywhere, I find an excuse to go for a long ride instead of returning home. This car has been on almost every street and road (both paved and unpaved) within 50 miles. I love my navi.
Yes, this car is still getting admiring glances, even long stares. Just two weeks ago, I came out of the bank to find a young woman standing in front of my car staring at it. As I came up to the car, she said it was the most beautiful car she had ever seen. Nice feeling . . .

Not that I've had much to compair against (like smarty with his nice TL) but this is by far the most stylish/sexy , fun to drive car I've ever owned. It's a sneaky car, I'll look down and see that suprisingly I'm already at 90 and wonder how I got there. I've always wanted a Max and now I know what I've been missing. My only regret is that this is my first one...

Finally a car that makes me smile again ever since a 1993 nissan maxima which was great as well. I also happen to make excuses to drive the car on long trips. And with the escort 9500, I enjoy the car alot more.
My only problem has been the wife trying to borrow the car from me all the time. I am usually a really nice pushover generous kind of guy, but not with my max. She has a new car as well (Fully loaded Honda odyssey with NAV and rear entertainment)

I got mine in Aug 2008 (2009 first releases) and I still get compliments to this day! Gotta love that. It was fun telling the guy yesterday that, NO, it's not a "new" car, I've had it for almost 2 years.
Only had mine for 2 weeks, but like the others, find excuses to take the long way. It also has a way to put a smile on your face when driving - something my 'trade-in 05 Caravan never did.
Also have an 09 Sentra and an 01 Altima, both of which are great cars in their own right.

LOL! I hate that! My wife is ALWAYS looking for ways to get behind the wheel. Isn't it enough that I let her drive it to work on Saturdays? Damn!
I've noticed that I've gotten stares from more than one G37 owner as well...
Maybe their kicking themselves for buying a car that EVERYONE has. Where I live, G37's are as commonplace as camry's.
HEAR HEAR! Finally a thread that I can respond to! Purchased my '09 SV/Premium/Tech in September '09. Been lurking on this forum for months, and greatly appreciate the info available. But I have had NONE of the problems experienced by many folks here, so have almost felt like something was wrong with me! LOVE this max (my third). But I do have one problem with it. My wife and I are avid motorcyclists, and have always toured on our bikes. Now that we have driven the max the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline drive, then another trip to Norfolk, we are having a realllly difficult decision about taking the max instead of the bikes as planned on our upcoming trip to the Grand Canyon. Decisions, Decicions! Dang Maxima! Making my life difficult!
Also love our max. 7200 miles and everything is perfect still. haven't had any issues at all! great great great car. did i mention we love it, and its a great car
love that 3.5L. makes power all over the place. it seems at any RPM, the car just pulls hard.

While I have had 1 or 2 minor issues with this car, I overall really enjoy driving it. I too, as light pointed out earlier, find myself sometimes going on longer rides then I had intended to because I enjoy driving the car so much and the front seats are just uber comfortable!
I too love the update nav system the 7th Gen Maxima has. I personally feel, while there maybe other factory systems on the market with better graphics, etc I think Nissan/Infiniti has the BEST overall navigation system. Of all the OEM nav systems I have either had myself or seen in my friends/families vehicles, the Nissan/Infiniti navigation system is by far the easiest and most intuitve system to use. I was able to learn it fairly quickly (without using the owner's manual mind you) and store addresses and routes very easily. Another thing I love about Nissan/Infiniti nav system over the rests is how many options they give you to how you want to use it. I think they are the only ones that still allow 3 ways to access the system. (1) is using the switches and voice activation commands on the steering wheel for the driver (2) is using the buttons on the center console directly below the screen and (3) by far the best and most intutitve is being able to use the touchscreen directly on the monitor itself! Almost all the car companies are doing away with touchscreen and I am so happy to see that Nissan/Infiniti is NOT DOING AWAY with it and I hope they never do away with it!
The Lexus mouse thing, and the systems by the BMW, MB, and Audi suck and are no intuitive. Even Acura got rid of the touchscreen so boo them all!!! Yea for Nissan/Infiniti!!!! Also, I like that the nav system does not lock you out of every single feature while the car is in motion like Toyota/Lexus! I mean you are limited to what you can do while the car is in motion but you still can do some basic things which are nice! Plus, I like how the voice guidance directions make that secondary chime noise when your exactly at your turn on the route. I don't know of any other system that does that and it is extremely helpful!
There are so many other things that I like, for instance I LLLLLOOOVVVVEEEEE that heated steering wheel from Dec-March!!!!! but I don't want to go off on a rant here!

I love the pics man! I've been telling my Nissan dealership because apparently Nissan and Infiniti Consumer Affairs, by law, can't except customer recommendations from us lowly consumers, that Nissan should seriously consider a white LED DRL like this or something similar. I mean I don't want them to copy Audi exactly and do it in that style and pattern but something like this would be so cool. Plus, I think it would complement the kick *** RED LED's they have on the rear tailights!!
I use my Max mainly on the weekends. I do find myself sometimes going faster than I should, but ain't illegal until you get caught. The car handles so well and the seats are very comfortable.
I love all the techy stuff. I use all the voice tech features whenever possible.
My friends and family really like the car and didn't realize at first that it was a Maxima.
My wife use to have a 2nd gen Maxima before so now it's great to go back to the Max.

I really do love my Max. When I was looking for cars they were mostly cars that didn't fit into the same category (ie, 09 Subaru STi, 08 Mitsubishi EVO X and a 09 BMW 135i) All of them were impressive in their own rights. When I was trading my 300zx I figured I would get the most money at Nissan which is how I got involved with the Max. It had everything I wanted and needed for my long term goals in a car. The way it looks (timeless, gorgeous, classic, incredible, etc...), the way it handled, and the technology I would use on a daily basis. I count (and look forward to) this car being with me for a very long time.

To tell you the truth, I could see the Max having the Halo DRLs like a BMW and I think it wouldn't come across as stealing because it is just a simple idea that looks really great and seems incredibly functional. I just feel that, modding aside, the Max with the Audi lights would come across as stealing because it was just such a unique thing at the time it first came out.
The '12 will almost surely be the 7.5 generation, so will have a few minor tweaks to the front and rear facia so as to make it distingushable from the 7.0 generation. I would expect new rims, also. There could be mechanical changes (minor if at all), or a feature or two not on the 7.0. There will be little or no increase in HP. Almost surely there would be a color added, and probably a color dropped. I don't think we will have a diesel option for the Maxima that soon, but if the recession recovers faster than expected, it might be possible. Nissan has already done quite a bit of work in that area, as a diesel version of the Maxima was coming with the 2011 model year until the recession changed everything.

Although only a couple weeks old, I'm still very happy with the decision to "pull the trigger." So far, my 2010 does not have any of the typical problems discussed in many of the threads here. No rocking seats, no engine noises (except for the normal sounds while accelerating), no moonroof problems, and no wheel balance problems. The only slight complaints are a bit too much road noise from the tires, and a slightly too stiff suspension. I suspect both these issues could be improved with a better tire selection.
Do test drive several Maximas before making your choice. I found very noticeable driving differences between some similarly equipped Maximas. There were slight differences in smoothness, torque steering, and even acceleration. Most of them handled identically, but there were some that were obviously not up to par.
We have at least two posters here with 2010 Maximas that have the vibrating passenger seat that annoyed several '09 owners.
We have only had a few with knocking or clicking noises from the engine, and they seem to be from different parts of the model year.
A few have had front end vibration that has been difficult to completely smooth out.
Several have klunking (or other) noises from the suspension, a few of which were fixed by a part recall.
Several have had strange noises from the double panel roof, as well as the regular sunroof.
Quite a few complained about a rocking driver's seat, and, strangely, some Nissan dealers where able to fix this perfectly, some not so perfectly, and some dealers worked mightly, but to no improvement at all. A few of the driver seats that were 'fixed' later began to rock again.
There were a few other isolated incidents that I am omitting.
BUT
Many here have had absolutely ZERO problems. After 16 months, my '09 is still perfect in every way; not a whisper of a problem.
Best advice, drive any new car you are considering buying on a careful road test. Make a WRITTEN LIST of the potential problems (like those I listed) you want to check for (believe me, you won't remember them all), and have that list with you when you test the car. During a test drive, be sure to find a street/road where there is no traffic, so you can hear every sound the car makes without interference from nearby traffic, etc. Drive the car at different speeds, as some problems are tied to a specific speed or speed range.
Be sure to check every inch of the outside of the car for dings, scrapes, unusual areas of paint, etc. Make sure the tire pressure is right on all four tires and the spare (spare requires 60 psi). Even after you buy your car, re-check everything on your list again, then check every function, light, operational device, seat belt flex/release, fluid level, etc, on the car. Rather than run back to the dealer every few days, wait until you have checked everything you can think of, and take your full 'fix list' to the dealer.
Considering the very long list of options, etc, on my Premium package Maxima, it is very impressive that I have yet to find the first problem of any kind.
Whatever you decide to do, good luck!
I'll give a list of loves and unloves...
I love the power. I love the style. I love the uniqueness. I love interior. I love so much about this car. I love seeing other Maxima's on the road!
I strongly dislike the CVT. I strongly dislike the XM reception. I strongly dislike the CVT (I think I said that already... but it deserves to be listed twice)

Agreed! I bought my 2k after driving from NY to Cali in a 96'. I literally came home sold my truck and bought the max within a week. I was dissapointed with the styling of the 6th gens so I held onto Maxine right up to 92K. After a long adventerous life from stock through the slow modding process, with boost then back to NA, she had done me well. I am so pleased I bought my 2009, only thing I miss is the manual gear box. I love this car.
Well, despite all that you love about the Maxima, I'm not sure it was the right car for you if you completely hate the CVT. The CVT is not exactly something you can avoid while you have this car. You have to use and put up with day in and day out. At first, I was not crazy about it myself at first, but over the last several months I have warmed up to it! The fuel economy it provides is exceptional!
Overall I love the car, but while it tries to be sporty, it often lacks...
Considering I didn't see anything else in my price range that I liked this was the best bet. While I dislike the CVT and wish the car had a 6 or 7-speed auto I am learning to enjoy it. I just am so used to feeling shifts that I really miss it. Also, using the paddleshifters is very underwhelming.

It is an awesome feeling when someone stops and stares at is as I am walking up and they tell me how beautiful the car is.
It took me quite some time to get used to the CVT (my 98 Max is an automatic and I have a 98 Mustang with a 5-speed manual), but it has really grown on me.
