Anyone try Lamin-x Taillight Fims?
Hey guys, anyone have experience with Lamin-X films? I saw their ad in car and driver and checked out their website.

I would love to smoke out my taillights and am wondering if this is a good product/company.
thanks for the input.

I want something that is a mild smoke so I wont get hassled by the Po'. I kindof like the idea of having it reversible as well. I'm open to other options though.
Most of the guys I know bake them then use Tamiya model spray paint made special for polycarbonates. But VHT rings a bell, I am 99% sure my buddy with a 240 had it end up flaking off after a year.

I just got mine painted with the signal light cut out which looks amazing on my white car, I wanted the laminex but the only thing that annoyed me is I couldn't find a tint film that would have the cut out signal. Imo it looks a million times better with the cut out.
Pics please.
I remember seeing them somewhere, not laminex but a different brand...
The one thing I am 'nervous' about is that little bump on the tail light. Other than that the curves don't seem too bad.

I've used laminx on several cars and IMO it is the best stuff around. It's quite thick and not as easy to work with as VHT or Batmobile overlays, but most overlay companies are selling die-cut window tint. The Lamin-x is heavy duty stuff that will not fade or tear and it is flexible and stretchable to go around tight corners, you just need a hair dryer or heat gun
i got mine finished today in 100 degree weather im pleased with product wasnt as easy to do and there videos all in all it took me about 3 hours to do the taillight the 3rd brake light and mirrors pics loading.

Looks good man. Really good. Mine came in the mail yesterday and I'm just waiting for some free time to do it. Hopefully Saturday. You got the Gunsmoke, right? I got Smoke and now I'm wondering if it will be too dark. We'll see I guess
Installed the film after work yesterday. What a difference a little smoke makes. The film is very thick and easy to work with, although it is very difficult to apply... if that makes any sense... Since you have to use filtered water, without soap, you can't move the film around. You have to keep peeling it up and stretching it and heating it. That being said, I have a TON of bubbles but they should go away within a few weeks. The first light took about 45 min, the second about 25 min, and the 3rd brake light about 5 min.
Also note that I finally got around to painting my dealer licence plate frame black lol I know that bothered some people...

Nice man. I was thinking about doing the mirror signals with the extra material I had from the 3rd brake light but I left it be so all the lights match white from the front.

Just ordered my overlays now; headlighs, tails, fogs and 3rd break lights. Ima be customizing them though. Or the tails Ima be cutting out the reverse light area; for the headlights I'm also going to be customizing them but I'll save that for the pictures
Also with what I have left over from the 3rd break light I'm going to be using those for the side mirror blinkers.

do nottt
DO NOTTT nightshade or spray your tailights, it always comes out like crap unless you do it 2 or 3 times n get it perfect, a waste of time and money because sure the lamin-x itself is cheap, but they get your with the applicator and applicator gel...its about the same price to just buy black/ smoked taillights (taillights actually manufactured in black or smoked colors. To the ppl who "their friends" cars looked pretty good with the spray or film-they either took hours or were a pro/lucky at their application...and if they had a shop or tint company do it, the company will most likely never touch a headlight or tailight again after the annoyance and complication of it all...you'll always get bumping or peeling by the edges and after a while dirt and air make it through somehow, kind of like a semi-permeable surface, weirddd...but no, my sisters a mechanic and all her friends that work at respectable and notable places that install tint and soundsystems told me not to get it and that they will NEVER apply it ever again (pain in the ***). I'm currently buying JDM black headlight and taillights, altogether with shipping its under $200 and its easy to install yourself. (hope I didnt upset anyone with my opinions...I'm sure atleast 1out of 5 ppl who tried the lamin-x probably liked it (and unless you own small circle/square jeep headlights and spray them black (smoked brings out the scratches) then you will not want to spray on account of the bigger surface area making any flaws or defects in your lens's stick out like a sore thumb.
(p.s.-somebody pleaseeeeeee help me find a decent muffler (or FULL exhaust with headers, hi-flow cat, and cat-back ex))..
