new-to-me Stillen axle back (in black)

So I got up with Marjen today and got his previous Stillen axle back exhaust.

The way I got it

After some 120 grit sanding

Photos are after a couple coats of "high heat low gloss" paint. I will be putting on a few more coats but may switch the final coats to flat black; haven't decided yet

The fact that you are still trapping some of that rust underneath a coat of paint makes me uneasy, but other than that good job. Looks a heck of a lot better than it did that's for sure. The tips look like they may need some inter-coat sanding... looks like there is some pitting or something going on with them.

I'm very comfortable with the rust-cleaning not being perfect. Just a risk I accepted.

With the tips (the middle pics) that is water as I just rinsed them off. But even the painted pics, true, they look off....that is just a poor paint job that I planned on addressing later (or not).

Haha nice man, I know how that is, you are gonna get them all painted then be eager to get it bolted on... I know I would be. You only really see the first inch of the tip from the outside anyway, so as long as that looks good, who cares!

Anyway, good job I'm looking forward to seeing this on the whip.

before install, I plan on meeting Kam for a Borla/OEM video first.... if that can be done in a decent timeframe. Then will be able to get a different video all together. We'll see if things go well for Borla

I really do need to address the paint bubbles on the tips.

doesn't look too bad considering all the rust that's underneath.

possibly stupid question: Did you consider powder coating them (like you did with the wheels)?

Powder coat would be an cool experiment, but whats the heat racing on that?

I did for a full second, then said no way. It's just an exhaust that no one will see really. Well, not enough to spend crazy money on. I can deal with a couple cans of paint The paint lasts a long time and is easy enough to touch-up

There are many engine components that are PC'd, so the exhaust could take it.
