License plate "invisible" sprays- Sham or No more tickets man?

I tried to search for this as I would think it has been discussed before but couldn't get a hit. They have installed cameras at almost every intersection in the areas around me. I make it a habit to not speed through yellows but sometimes you get caught in the left turn waiting for traffic to pass. My friend thought we should order one of those sprays for the plate that is supposed to cause a reflection and make the plate unreadable to the camera. I found very mixed reviews about them. Anyone use them or have experience with it. Some claim its just a can of clear coat. Any feedback?

Red light cams don't give out tickets if you're waiting in the intersection for the yellow.

You get a pic of your car the moment the light turns red, NOT in the intersetion, and then a second pic after you've entered the intersection, with the light still red.

Due to the fact that someone could have stolen your car and ran through the red light I know where i live in Sacramento they must have your face in the picture to prove it's you so regardless if your rear plates are blocked by something they much have facial proof!!

Sprays Dont Work

They dont work. I am embarrassed to admit but I saw it on Mythbusters and they also tried a bunch of other things.
However, you could get one of these http://www.escortradar.com/store/passport-9500ix.html

Where I live in Houston, Texas, they don't show your face. One pic before you get into intersection with light showing red. Second pic while in intersection. Third is a video of everything on their website. They send you a mail with the 2 pictures and a code to get on their website site and watch a video of you braking the law. Happened to my wife in my Max. Guess what? Mail was addressed to me. So, if my car was stolen, tough luck!

I have read the spray works if you get the right one. Never talked to anybody with experience with the spray. But that is something I am interested in too.

Google and see if it is on other car forums. Try audi, bmw, benz or any other.

Actually, it's up to the registered owner to prove it WASN'T them. You must contact the issuing agency and provide the driver details.

The point of the spray is to make your wallet lighter.

Spray does not work. I also saw this on mythbusters. They tried protective reflective plate holders; sprays; tin foil......the flash some how from the camera does not get reflected. You need a flipping plate to avoid this. I have one and it works great!!

This is not true. I have been witness to the camera flash firing while the car is in the intersection. Yes it was stuck there until the light turned red. That's just how it is in NY. Here they catch a picture of the rear plate. Doesn't matter who was driving. It really sucks.

As far as mythbusters go I have read that they took pictures directly from in front of the plate. The concept of the reflective nature of the spray is that it works best at an angle. That is the way the red light camera's face. I am going to invest in one can and be the guinea pig. I have my old plates before I customized them in the garage. I will spray one with the spray and one with clear coat and take a picture from an elevate angle. The only thing is that I can't reproduce the intensity of the light. I was hoping to avoid this and get some actual feedback.

How would you be able to flip it in time?

Word of warning to the wise. Sprays, tints, etc on license plates is illegal in many states and the laws are getting more strict. Florida it's 60 days jail and a $500 fine, Texas, "It's a Class C misdemeanor, at minimum, which is punishable by up to a $200 fine. But if you can prove that the person did it knowingly, the person can spend up to six months in jail or have a $2,000 fine or both"

I'm going to close this thread down as it's discussing potentially illegal activity and attempting to avoid traffic safety devices and/or encourage the breaking of the laws.

Folks, use a bit of common sense, think before you run that light, everyone's life you put into danger.
