De-badged :)

So, I didn't like how the MAXIMA letters threw the whole rear end off balance, so I de-badged them ... and put up a how-to on my web site:

http://www.road-reality.com/2010/08/...nissan-maxima/

Needless to say, it looks MUCH MUCH better now!

I just did the same thing to my '10. I wanted to take the Nissan symbol off as well but i wasn't sure if there were screws holding down the symbol. do you know if they are screwed in?

Debadged both the Nissan Emblem and Maxima Letters from the rear. Really looks wider and smoother.

Bad debadge?

Hey I recently debadged my car and the MAXIMA came off real good no problems there. But the Nissan Emblem didn't look so good when I took everything off there is a sort of scratched shadow where it used to be. I'm not sure if this is normal or I actually #$%^#&* it up... I used Goo Gone and some bug/tar remover along with my good old finger nails. I will attempt to post the pictures below but does anybody know if it will just take some time to blend in or what? Basically I washed the car, flossed off the emblem, took everything off with goo gone, re-washed the car and then waxed the area. So the picture you see are after waxing. Help

this is not right..something happened when you tried to remove the adhesive with your nails. You probably have only a couple options

1) Try some polishing compound and use gently pressure to see if those swirl marks can be removed
2) Replace the emblem to cover it

My how to for de-badging was I took it to the dealership and asked them to remove the letters. I left the Nissan emblem, but the "Maxima" lettering never looked right, almost like it wasn't straight.

JohnBurns - is that a Bently emblem on your Maxima?

lol - no it's not a Bently emblem. It's a Nissan emblem I found on EBay - here's a closeup of it......

Nice, it looks almost like a Bentley badge from a distance.

Here is mine minus the "Maxima" lettering:

De-Badging Emblem

I've had my 09 Maxima for about 14 months now and was considering taking off the nissan emblem on the trunk lid. I've heard that if the badges have been on for a while then they could leave a "ghost" mark behind. Does anyone know if 14 months is too long?

It might be ... but over time, the paint will fade to match - has anyone else done the debadge after a long-ish time?

I just debadged my 2010. I took off both the Nissan emblem and the Maxima name. I used the wifes hair dryer....and used the fishing line technique. I followed up by removing the black tape with my thumb nail. After all the black was removed, I took off all of the clear glue with Goo Gone Xtreme Remover (4.5 oz metal can at Wal-Mart, +-$4.00). This was almost effortless. The hardest part was using the fishing line (use gloves to prevent cutting your fingers). I've had my car about 3 months, so no real concern about fading etc.

Hair dryer and bug and tar remover made it very easy... heat it up real well and the letters will just come off... for darker colors be carefull or you will leave ugly swirl marks in your paint... I removed Maxima letters, pinstripe and door edge guards in 2 hours.

I only removed the Maxima of 2011. I'm going to wait a few days and maybe remove the Nissan.

I just de-badged my car and it's obviously 2-2.5 years old, even though I've only owned it 5 months. No fading at ALL visible on the silver of my car.

I did that to mine a few months ago, removed the maxima and the nissan logo. At the time it was about 1.5years old with 30K miles. I have mystic jade, the bluish/grayish/slightly greenish color. There was no signs of fade anywhere. I just used my finger nail and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to remove the gunk. After a good waxing over the entire area. You can't tell, except that it looks better. I am still contemplating putting the nissan logo back on. I like not having it, but the back looks a little awkward without something there.

Any suggestions on what else to put in its place?

I just took off my MAXIMA letters last weekend. I like just having the Nissan emblem. I thought about replacing it with a chrome "NY" logo for the NY Giants - my favorite team. I'll probably leave it as-is.

I have totally de-badged my 2011. You shouldn't ever use anything to scratch off the glue, Nissan paint is so easy to scratch that even your fingernail will mess it up! I de-badged my 370z and thought I was being careful, but ended up with a couple of scratches. I ended up having to put the Z back on to cover some of them. Thankfully there were just a couple so I left the 370 off and just used the Z. This time I just heated it up with a blow dryer and used dental floss then just some remover and finger power (finger pads not nails) to rub the rest of the glue off. Wax the area and your done.
I personally like it without any of the badges on it anywhere. I changed out the front grille with a billet grille that doesn't have anything on it and I like it a lot. I even took the Nissan emblems off the center caps. Makes the Maxima look a little mysterious, keeps people wondering what it is.
I'll post some pictures as soon as I have enough posts.

I know what you mean, when I de-badged my 09 I had several people ask me "wow is that the new Altima"

just debadged mine. looks nice. I bought a heat gun from a local crafts store aka Michaels. it worked very well and I found a coupon online for 50% off purchase price. I used the dental floss technique with some turtle wax sticker/glue remover. total cost 19 bucks.

I have been debating for a few weeks now which route to go....should I take the Maxima badge off of the rear, or should I get it Plasti-dipped? I was going with the black rims and accents on my Silver SV Premium, but I just like the clean look of the rear without the badge there.

When I got my '09 people used to ask me "you got an Altima, right?" all the time. I never understood it myself being that in my eyes, they look completely different....maybe we are the crazy ones, haha...

I dont know what it is, but I dont like the naked look with NO emblems whatsoever....

I personally like the "MAXIMA" and Nissan logo, especially.

If anything, I'd ONLY remove the "MAXIMA"
