Contact with AAM Competition

Hello fellow 7th Gen owners! Through word of mouth from some 370Z owners I hang out with frequently, I came across a company up in Annapolis, MD called AAM Competition (AAM stands for Altered Atmosphere Motorsport). They specialize in GT-R's, 350/370Z's, Infiniti, etc so I figured I would shoot them an email and let them know that there are a dedicated group of 7th Gen Maxima owners who are constantly on the prowl for aftermarket parts. I will see what they say as I'm sure they're going to need numbers on how many people might be interested in exhaust, intake, suspension goodies to see if the R&D is worth the cost.

I'll keep everyone updated, but just wanted to let everyone know that our friends with the Z's have some great companies out there building quality products for their cars, so why not ours?

Ok, cool let us know. Please inquire with them about doing something to alter the gearing in the CVT to really wring the power from this badboy.

I'll definitely ask about that, although something tells me they probably won't want to screw with the CVT haha. They'll probably say "should've come with an MT in the first place". I think it's going to take some serious hacking of the ECU to alter the performance of our CVT.

Got a response back from AAM first thing this morning!

"Thanks for taking the time to contact us here at AAM. The Maxima is not on our list of cars to do at present but it is something we would consider in the near future.

Currently the R&D shop is fully booked for the next 3+ months (yes we are that busy!) but we would be happy to speak to you in the meantime to get an idea of the products that would be good for the car in terms of styling, horsepower and price.

Thank you again for your interest and I will be in contact soon."

With that being said, I'd like to get an idea from everyone on what products you'd like to see on the 7th Gen. List any and all ideas so that I can get back to AAM!

Alright, tried to help some folks out here but it seems nobody has ANY input on this whatsoever. No responses from any of you 7th gen owners out there will equal zero cooperation from AAM Competition. These folks are very responsive (albeit busy for the next month with other R&D) and want to help us out. If nobody has any interest in making more HP and torque, then I'm going to have them fabricate some components just for my car in the very near future.

Throwing it in the trash and putting a proper gearbox in would be better..

i personally am not looking for power/suspension upgrades (intake/exhaust would be sufficient for me).... i would like to see more exterior appearance products....especially an aftermarket grill that is NOT chrome in anyway.

How an you imply that the CVT is "improper" in the first place?

Although I do not like the CVT all that much in terms of the way it delivers its' power, it has the Max being faster than any previous version of the Maxima in either Auto or Manual Transmission.

The CVT is a bit more economical than any previous transmission for the Max as well.

It isn't bad, it's just the delivery of the power that could be improved, not that the car necessarily needs more HP or TQ.

Who doesn't want more power? Guess I'm the only horsepower freak here besides KillaKam and his ridiculously awesome NX kit!

I have a meeting with AAM in the coming weeks, so after the sit-down with them we'll see what kind of tweaks they can do to the 7th gen to gain power. One thing they won't be able to do are any cosmetic mods (i.e. body kits, etc). Personally I think this car looks great without any tacky body add-ons.

They won't be able to mess with the CVT programming as they only specialize in geared trannys (including the GTR's DCT trans). Not worth it to them to explore our CVT, and personally, I can't blame them.
