What is this?

Noticed this a few weeks ago walking up to the car, can't figure out if it was there before and I just didnt notice it or its something new. I havent had the chance to get the car up on a lift yet, hope it isnt too important....
Anyone know what it is or might be? Does anyone else have this thing sticking out? I'm talking about the metal thing in the pics, thats my passenger side front wheel. There was a clip looking thing there before, guess that fell out of the little hole on the bottom though.

That thing sticking out is a rubber tie that helps hold the inner tire well guard in place. It's usually fastened with a pushpin, but that obviously fell out.

Its not a major thing, you just need to get under there and put it back in the whole with the correct pushpin fastener.

Hope that helps.

i am under the impression that is supposed to be bolted to the car

there is a similar metal piece that is bolted to the opposite side near the same spot

take a look

I'm pretty sure the oil filter is behind where the little rubber piece is not connected to. Check the splash shields. There is a little shield that goes along the back lower splash shield area (towards the engine) that I think is removed to get to the oil filter. I bet the last oil change, the person did not reconnect it. (guessing about the oil change)

Agreeing here. Looks like the splash guard around the oil filter.
