2010 Rear Bumper Gap

Maxima was purchased on July 31st. Gap has been on car ever since the car was picked up. I did not realize the gap until a few days after I purchased the car. I figured it was normal but the gap seems to be getting worse. Gap is located on passenger side only and between the tail light and bumper. I uploaded pics of the gap. Does anyone else have this issue? Saw a few Maximas at the dealer the other day and some of them had a gap but not as bad and others were flush.

It does not bother me that much, but a lot of other people notice and ask about it.

How do I get this fixed? I am not anywhere near the dealer I bought the car from.

just about every 2009+ maxima I've seen has that issue, and it was on both sides.

Seems strange that some cars do not have any problems on either side and others have it pretty bad. At least they could have added a clip.

It's probably Nissan's fancy "aerodynamic engineering" lol.

If it's still on warranty you can take it to any dealer.

Just checked out the photos of your car in your sig and it appears like you may have the same problem. Look by the tailight on the side where it meets the bumper lime. You may notice a little gap or uplift of the bumper edge. It looks that way in the pics.

they will say that it was designed that way...some lame excuse.

if the bumper has a design flaw, I wonder what else in the engine and tranny has a flaw as well.

I tell ya guys, nissan has gone down hill really fast. Hyundai and kia will overtake them in the next few years. The sonata is already outselling the altima.

I've got the same thing on my car. I think only us enthusiasts would even notice.

I would not make that assumption based on a slightly misaligned bumper. I have had zero problems with my '09 after 21 months. There are others here on the org who have had their cars longer than I have, and no problems.

Michael Karesh has a car reliability site (truedelta, I believe), and so far, the responders to his site have the 7th gen Maxima with far fewer problems than average.

all cars have their flaws, my 09 does has no problems compared to a dozen of my friends cars who I would never want to own, including
toyota and hyundais

and it's so easy to look at cars you don't own and think they are perfect

not to get off topic, but have you ever seen or heard a used altima/camry with 100k on it, they sound pretty rough, and are generally pretty broken down and beat, so I am waiting to see how the turbo sonatas hold up, I have already heard and seen plenty and some sound way louder then others those turbo engines are probably getting a workout from people who should have not bought/leased one

Dealer will fix it for free. They tried to blame the bulbs were replaced and caused the gap. Then he said he would fix it. Taking it in next week. All the 2011s on the lot did not have a gap looked at about 9 maximas.

Forget the rear bumper.how about grabbing your front bumper at the the lower grill area where the plate goes and pull up and down and feel how that sucker feels like it will fall off..I went to the dealer and checked 27 maximas and 18 of them all felt like the only thing holding them on were just those plastic pop fasteners and no bolts.I thought my front and rear bumper was repainted also but its just how the car is made.
