Someone just needs to bite the bullet and do it
I talked to a shop who did CAI CBE and UPREV tune and gained a whopping 25whp... the K&N intake promises 13whp...wy spend the extra money?

25hp to the wheels is pretty decent for bolt-ons. Figuring a 15-20% drivetrain loss (pretty normal for a FWD slushbox), a stock 7th Gen SHOULD put down about 235-240whp. An extra 25whp will put you around 265. 265hp to the wheels in a 3600lb car really isn't all that bad.

If you really want the best hp-per-dollar, F/I is the only way to go. I hear ya though. Spending around 2K for CAI, CBE plus a tune is quite pricey for 25whp. Getting real HP from a smaller displacement N/A motor can be difficult. Now if you were to swap the heads and cam on let's say... an LS3 V8, you're going to net at LEAST 120hp to the wheels for 2,500 bucks.

Horsepower aint cheap my friend. Gotta pay to play

Nothing is cheap.. I will sit patiently and wait until they can tune the CVT to perform better ... If not I will wait until I blow the CVT up gut it and put a 6spd custom manual in there... I love the lines on this car and It won't be leaving my driveway EVER...

I'm still wondering how a CVT is dyno'd.

"Nothing is cheap"... aint that the damn truth

I'm with ya. Going to sit back and wait for some company to come out with a way for the engine and CVT to communicate better for some better performance. Until then, it's new wheels and a few other small exterior mods for me

Yes, me too. I think this is the key to making this car improve in overall performance, we all know how little adding things like an intake/exhaust set up really nets this car.

As far as I know there are no cams for this car (somebody show me otherwise) and therefore our only real/true option for big gains is either through turbo, SC or nitrous.

Maybe all of us who own a CVT (6 Gens included) should make a joint effort to UpREV or some other Tuner to build us a plug and play downloadable program for the CVT.

I really hope 1 of those OBD2 tuners makes a tune soon .If Diablosport made one they would make a good amount of $$$ from us.All they have to do is make a few variations of tunes with the programmer and they and us are all set.For minor bolt -ons like we all have it should be very easy for them to make. And if we ALL contact these hand held tuner makers I am sure they will see a demand for this and produce one soon enough. But if we dont let them know then we will go under the radar and they wont produce one.Lets speak up about it and stop talking about it and be about it?I will contact the most widely used makers now in email.

There are cams for your cars. Your car has HR heads, and whatever fits in HR heads will fit in your cars. HR equipped 350z's is what comes to mind

You will soon be like your older gen counterparts and start going not the easy route. For starters, you guys have CVTC on both I & E cams, so therefore, you can get a V-manage and add more area under the torque curve.

Also, your ECU is, I'm assuming, just like the later model Z33's (350z), so my guess would be that Osirus/UpRev, and essentially anything made for the Z would work for your cars. It all depends on the ECU connector. If you tried it, I'd bet it work. That's how myself and a couple of other members were when the UpRev first came out. It wasn't marketed for the Maxima, but someone took a chance, bought it, and it worked.

Thing to do would be to befriend a local Z guy who has one of these toys and see if it connects and take it from there.

Thanks Nmex, we really need some guys with technical expertise like yours here. Although most of us here won't go all out for the sheer numbers when it comes to modding the few here that will can definitely pick your brain for this type of knowledge.

i tried advancing the timing at work with the consultIII, but it would only let me lower it not raise it, still not much to gain from a few degrees but i found out that wot was around 36* lol

Was this the base timing you were trying to change or something else? The timing will be different for any given RPM.

There's a lot to be gained from timing, a helluva lot.

Here's mine with an ECU mod and another timing advance trick:

Old thread. But I see this 7th gen Is seeing 33' degrees full advance. My car currently is at 26. Anyone else else check theirs? I use the Torque PRO app.

Was there ever any progress on figuring out how to remove the WOT governor? I'm perfectly content with the power between 40-80, but it'd be lovely if the car wasn't so soft before then.

Yes. You have to get it tuned with UpRev software which can disable the throttle control!
