Possible to add Bluetooth Audio Streaming to 2009 Maxima?
I know the 2009 supports Bluetooth, but only for phone audio. Something I'd really love to have is the Bluetooth audio streaming that is available on the 2010. Is this a feature of the 2010 Head Unit that is in the Maxima, or something else? Is that possible to swap in so that I can have Bluetooth audio streaming in my 2009?
I know I can get Bluetooth using an aftermarket head unit, but don't really want to rip out the entire audio system right now. In fact I think it's fine and like the look inside the car with it. Just the lack of Bluetooth audio streaming is killing me. I have a Droid Incredible that has A/V output that I plug into the RCA inputs, but I'd rather do Bluetooth streaming so simplicity sake, if possible.

The blue tooth receiver is actually separate from the head unit. It's mounted underneath the rear package shelf.
It may be possible to upgrade the that blue tooth receiver with one from a 2010 model. But it would likely also require a firmware update to the entire stereo / nav system with the 2010 firmware. I doubt there is a procedure for this that Nissan would be inclined to share.
Unfortunately the car companies don't have a business model where they make it easy to add software features via an upgrade. It's pretty frustrating, given how much is actually controlled by software.
I'm in the business equipment industry (MFP/copiers), and we make so much available by firmware update it's amazing. Want a new feature? Need to fix a bug? Just install a firmware update and you're set. We actually design the systems to allow such easy upgrades. It would be nice if the car companies started working this way - especially since consumers are expecting this more and more.

Also it's not so much that me as a consumer expects more and more, but that they should plan for things to be built on. I know they entice you to buy the upgrade when you get the car by making it this difficult to add it later...but really this is a stupid business model and they're simply pushing people to aftermarket companies as opposed to doing it themselves.
Has anyone tried using something like either of these products?

I'm interested in knowing if you could hook something like these up to the RCA ports in the center console and then pair your phone to it?
In particular, I'm interested in knowing if the devices would automatically power on when I turn on my car, and if I would be able to still pair my phone to my car for phone calls through the car audio system. And finally, would I be able to still use my NAV system while listening to audio through the RCA ports?
Phone: iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.2
Maxima: 2009 with tech and Nav
Thanks.

I can stream via bluetooth, the phone still works as expected.
Everything turns on by itself, no mocking around necessary.
When you mention that the phone still works as expected, does that mean that it too is connected via bluetooth and when a call comes in, or you dial outbound it works without a hitch? That is my only hesitation with this product is if it would work with 2 concurrent bluetooth connections (one for music streaming to the Blackberry device, and the other connection for phone audio through the speakers etc). - Thanks

The phone registers two active bluetooth profiles. One for the car phone and another for music streaming with BB gateway.
If I am listening to the music and the call comes in, the music pauses and I am able to have a phone conversation. When that ends, the streaming music resumes. I have not tried dialing while listening to the music, but it should work exactly same way.
So in short it works exactly as you expect it to.
The volume is controlled via combination of the phone and stereo volume buttons, but generally it needs to be pretty high, due to no amplification taking place. You are also not able to use steering wheel or stereo buttons to control music on the phone. With full integration, you can, at least on a Mazda.
I was hesitant to buy for exact same concerns as you have. Go for it, you will not regret it.

I can only speak for my phone, samsung galaxy s2 on AT&T.

BTW, I bought following BB gateway http://shop.crackberry.com/blackberr...A172A11438.htm
I actually got the bundle of gateway and their cigarette plug cord, which allows to power two devices at the same time. I recommend it.
I read a bunch of reviews of other Blutooth gateways, like belkin at half the price, but was swayed by too many negative reviews.

I mentioned this in another thread already. I have one of these:
Its a little pricey. But I can leave it plugged into the power port in the center console, so its always charged. It can then plug into the aux audio port in the center console.
Works the same as the black berry.

Is there something like this that will allow me to stream Pandora or Spotify from my phone thru my bluetooth setup? I have an 09 SV with Sport package but with the regular Bose system (non Navigation) is there anything I can do without ripping out the whole head unit?
Do you have an aux input plug in your setup? Either 3.5mm stereo or Red/White RCA plugs? If yes, exact same setup applies to you. If not, you need to first figure out how to add AUX stereo input.
Yeah I do have an Aux input on the front of the unit that looks like a regular mini-input. So i plug this thing into the Aux but where does it get power from?
The one I bought - blackberry music gateway has a regular mini-usb (or micro-usb) power connector. The device came with USB power cord and AC USB dongle. I also bought a blackberry 12v power cord in a package. That has the right style plus as well as extra USB port.
Regardless, the concept is the same. You plug the gateway into the aux stereo and power plugs. Then you can stream anything from any blutooth device into your car.
Sweet! Thanks dude.
Different Blutooth receivers have different setups for power. Some have built in rechargeable batteries, some have proprietary power adapter plugs.

Does anyone know if there's an extra auxiliary input, in any format, or some alternative method that involves wire splicing, behind the stereo? It'd be nice to install a powered BT receiver back there without having a wire hanging down from the middle of the dash.
There's a lovely tutorial here on how to get the stereo out, but you never get a clear view of the back. Most of the inputs appear to be plastic plugs.
Tapping the wires that lead to the 3.5mm input would be a direct method (if you could find out which those were), but then you'd be running current (albeit not a lot) into the BT receiver whenever that input was used (and vice versa). So I guess you'd have to install something like this behind the dash:

Thoughts?

Apropos to the post above, it occurs to me the most sensible thing would just be to run a flat right angle cable from behind the stereo to the front aux-in. Not optimal, but still clean.
Another problem arises: is there any Bluetooth receiver that doesn't require a button being pressed to pair new Bluetooth devices? That's a bit of a non-starter if it's hidden behind the stereo.
Any comments appreciated.

FYI on this: I installed this receiver:

.. with velcro in the empty space beneath the steering wheel. I hard-wired it to this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1PC-New-DC-D...-/360728635387
It automatically switches with the car and pairs with my phone. Sound quality is excellent. I've never had to press a button to do the initial pair, but if I needed to, the under-wheel mounting makes that possible.
The stereo cord from the BT module comes up from between the center and vertical consoles. The exposed length is only a few inches. It looks clean and doesn't move, so there was no need to pull the stereo.
