Interior Squeaks, Rattles, in the cabin - and how you got rid of them?

Well after trying to ignore multiple annoying rattles and other sounds in the cabin since last fall, I've finally reached the breaking point. This car felt like granite inside and out the first 5 months I owned it after buying new, then seemed like things started loosening up a bit.

My question to every 7th Gen owner out there is how many of you have actually taken your car into the dealer to have these kinds of things fixed? If so, did it cost you anything and has the fix lasted?

Mine are mainly coming from the dash near the bottom of the windshield, which sucks because it'll probably require them taking it apart to find the issue. Any comments are welcome.

Go back and look at some older threads. I had a dash rattle as well when I first bought the car and it ended up being my sunglasses rattling around in the overhead sunglass bin. It sounds crazy, but it might work for you as well. Initially I could have sworn that the sound was coming from the passenger side windshield. Some posters recommended lining the overhead holder with some type of felt type padding with sticky on one side from a fabric store.

I checked an older thread http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...r-console.html however most people said that it was just loose stuff they had stored in their car. I removed everything loose in the cabin and the noises are still there.

Here's where they're coming from:
B-pillar on drivers side
Gauge Cluster
Back of the dash near windshield

I've had all these issues prior to installing my FSTB and CAI, so I know the NVH levels aren't what caused them.

I have the same exact problem I think its the molding or whatever they have there. It mainly happens when I go over bumps at about 10-40mph

I think I might hold off on anything until something else starts buzzing in the cabin. I'd hate for them to rip the whole dash out, put it back together and introduce a new, more annoying rattle or noise when I get it back! I'm pretty close with the service folks at my dealer, so might try to get some info out of them and see what they MIGHT be able to do. Will keep yinz posted.

Clickity Clack
I have the same issue - Clickity-Clack from the front dash - dirver's side near bottom of the windshield - only have it when it is cold outside - and bumps don't seem to matter - it seems more like a change of direction that gets it to rattle - very annoying - glad that summer is just around the corner...

Seems like when its cold out or after it snows I always have a crackling sound coming from the rear window. Maybe its snow/ice in the open space right under the rear window when the trunk is open. Its so annoying!

Also it sounds like I have a squeak in the drivers side rear window. Whenever I hit a bump I can hear a little squeak. If I put the window down 1/8" it goes away. I'm wondering if the weatherstrip is off or bad or something.

Have any of ya'll been back to the Stealership about these noises coming from inside the cabin? I'm interested to see if they looked at you with a face and said "there's nothing we can do" or if they actually took the time to drive the car, replicate the sound and disassemble that area to fix the noise.

I'm probably getting antsy over a small muffled noise coming from the dash, but we all know that some noises fix themselves and others seem to get worse as time goes on

Same issue here. I keep looking for a stress crack in the windshield when I hear it. I can't really duplicate it either. Happens on some bumps, not others, some turns not others.

The plastic piece that surrounds my gauge cluster vibrates and makes noise...I hit it and it goes away for a while but I really have no idea how to get this one to stop.

The creaking I used to hear coming from the front area (DASH TOO) was actually the front struts, creak and moan sounds. Had the TSB repair done that puts a small tube over your springs. All the dash sounds I was hearing went away. Search here to fine the TSB number and bring it to your dealer, took them about 3 hours to complete. I always heard the creaking sounds when it was cold or going over bumps....all better now

I've already had that exact TSB performed back in September last year. I do have an FSTB on there, but the dash was making these muffled noises along the base of the windshield prior to me installing it.

Maybe it is cold weather, because I used to get a creak noise when I roll the driver side window down or up. Since the weather has got warmer, the sound went away. haha.

outside the windshield there is a black molding across the window below the wipers, take a plastic card and clean out the dirt trapped between the window and the black plastic .the noise will disappear I had the same problem on my 2011 maxima sport Good luck

I still get the occasional front end creaks even after having the strut isolators installed. Fewer than before.

There was a rattle I was getting when the car was cold and in reverse. It turned out to be something just above the sunglass section. The techs had to go in twice, but ultimately fixed it with strategically placed fabric tape.

I tend to find that my car makes all sorts of noises when I first start it, but tightens up with five or ten miles. Anyway, the interior bits mostly snap in place, so you can do some exploring yourself if the techs won't.

Had a rattle from what seemed like the drives side rear door, took it to the stealership and their "master technician" said "found no abnormal noises". Then he went on to explain that this wasn't a Mercedes Benz and these car rattle normally. I was like wtf? I paid almost 40,000 for this car and that's the best explanation you could give ... So i made him come with me on a test drive and while we were both in the car the noise was as clear as day and he STILL said "what noise?" so I made my girl drive and Im laying in the back and while we were driving I opened the door and found what the "normal" noise was.... The mud flap under the rear drivers wheel was loose and shaking around.... Needless to say when I got the survey about my experience at the dealer I filled it out in black magic marker you are not f&$@in serious right and sent it back. If that was a "master technician" I can only imagine what the reg mechanics are like. I have owned an m45sport and a g37s coupe before this and I thought going the lower car payment route was a smart thing but I thing i might have to change my screen name to m56sport soon because I just don't get how two brands from the same company can be like night and day.

I'll second that. I had three techs at one dealership tell me a whistling sound didn't exist. The first tech at the next dealer heard it immediately. Took two days to isolate, turned out to be the left mirror.

My car was in twice during the 8 months I owned it for rattles. One time they took the passenger door and dash apart and the 2nd time they replaced the windshield.

Car still rattled like it had 50K miles ( had 4K) .

I've had my car 7 months now, I've had the compressed air sound from the suspension since I can remember that I've just learned to live with. I had the wicked loud wind noise from the drivers side during high speeds that the dealer "fixed". The noise reduced a lot but def not completely quiet. It's starting to get real cold here in Boston so I'm starting to hear noises in the cabin, the worse is the cup holder vibrating during idle, I try shutting it and it's still there. Also aunglass compartment is useless since u put something in there and it just rattles. I'm not as **** as some but if this keeps up I may consider another car as I know they'll never completely fix every little tid bit. I had a 09 Altima 2.5, loud 4 cylinder in the cold but otherwise a solid car

I should add before I traded my car in I was able to trace a lot of the interior noise to the passenger headrest.

When I removed the headrest the noise went away, seems as if there is some metal on metal contact inside the seat or something similar.

Regardless of how I set the headrest ( height) the noise remained, had I kept the car I would have tried taping the metal posts on the headrest in the hope it would have silenced whatever contact was being made

Rattle Help!!!
Hey guys, Recently I bought 2012 maxima (used) SV with standard sunroof.
However, I started to notice a rattle noise from passenger side rear deck area and could not figure out the source. I have been to the dealership 2 times now but they could not trace the source of this stupid rattle. Anyone had similar issue before?

I had a similar rattle and it turned out to be the seat belt. It was twisted and the metal piece was laying against the trim around the door and was rattling against it.

This is something new...

Thanks for your reply. However, this rattle is definitely coming from right side back seat (maybe render area). I've put my hand on the suspected area below the headrest (half of seat folded down) and I could feel the rattle on my hand. Seems like the rattle reduces when I put some pressure. The rattle also get worse on a bumpy road.

!! UPDATE !!

Fixed the rattle!!!! It was a similar rattle spot compared to my old honda accord. There is a stainless plate attached to back seat frame (you'll see this plate either side of back seat after removing the leather seats) and one of the bolt spot was the troubling location. After removing the seat, I've removed the bolt from the troubling location and filled it in with foams and the rattle is gone!

rattles are the main reason I never have my tires only 32 PSI and never use low profile tires. Once the car starts to rattle.. most of the time u just need to learn to live with it. So far so good on the 2014

I've got a noise! Help! I've been hearing it about a month, maybe longer. It's right behind me to the left. Had a friend in the back, and when I opened the window they noticed the noise. Sounds like somethings rubbing when I hit a bump, Has to be hit the right way too, because it doesn't always make the sound while being bumped around.

I couldn't figure out what it was till my rear passenger said it's the window. And It hit me I hadn't heard the noise till I got my windows tinted. I'm not familiar with how a shop would go about installation, but would that process require the removal of anything that could have been put back on loose or improperly?

Bump**

Anybody? I don't wanna go back to the tint shop and start pointing fingers as I've already had a prior problem TWO times with them tinting my taillights, and just had a problem TODAY with them mixing up my scheduled appointment.

It's a joke, this shop is done for in my books. They still owe me so I don't really wanna make it worse like I said by pointing fingers. But I can only imagine the noise had to be from them removing or not putting something back properly?

An idea on what's moved while window tinting, would help greatly! Thanks again!

Hey man I know that some shops remove the door panels and stuff when tinting. I've been told however those that do this tend to not really be the best because pretty much all cars can be tinted without doing this. I know the shop I've had do all three of my cars doesn't remove anything when tinting cars

I had an annoying rattle on and off since I bought the car new. Two years ago. Really could not locate it. Sounded like it was coming from the passenger front corner.

Turns out it was the maplight/sunglass holder. If you push up on the back of this unit the rattle will stop. I added some foam to the rear mounting clips and all is fine now.

I imagine this is probably a common problem with 7th gens.
