How to install a front stabilizer bar

I just ordered and received a OEM sport front stabilizer bar. I'll get under there and look at installing it this weekend, but I'm wondering if anyone else has already done this swap out (stock bar to sport bar).

If so, any tips or challenges you care to mention regarding the installation? I installed the rear Stillen bar quite easily, but I'm anticipating things will be quite a bit more cramped up front.

I've actually been tempted to do this myself. I know the SV and Premium front sway bars are 25.4mm and the SV sport FSB is 26.5mm. Just wondering what kind of benefits you're going to see from a 1.1mm increase in thickness? Once installed, hope you drive the snot out of it around some backroads so us non-sport owners can see if there are gains to be had!

I've installed the Stillen RSB and Racingline FSTB, so i'm quite interested to see how your's does in the corners

The install looks similar to the 6th Gen, the 7th Gen shares a similar mechanical build, just everything looks different slightly

Take a look at these:

http://www.vqpower.com/v2/articles.php?article_id=104

http://my6thgen.org/showthread.php?t=232

I have been under my car and it's the same setup as the 6th

I have a Sport, waiting for a Nismo front and rear bar, probably not gonna happen

Thanks

Thanks - this is just what I was looking for. I'll use these procedures when I work on it this weekend.

I did note that the Stillen diameter (rear bar) was also only slightly larger than stock, so I'm optimistic that this sport bar will help - and for 89 bucks shipped, it's certainly worth a try.

The Stillen RSB is only a hair thicker diameter over stock, but its solid instead of hollow like the factory RSB. I did notice the handling was better after installing mine.

Hope the Sport FSB helps you out in the corners. If you think its worth it after a test drive, I just might get one myself

Just realized that you're in Oakton dude. I live in Fair Lakes.

Well Fair Lakes is just a stone's throw away. I haul my daughter up there for shopping so much, you'd think I live there - but not for long since she's got her learners permit.

I just put the Borla exhaust on just now after work and will tackle the bar this weekend (likely Sunday). I was thinking about installing it tomorrow (I took leave for Friday). However, I let it slip I'm taking the day off and my daughter drafted me for a Southern Maryland motorcycle ride instead (Chesapeake Beach, Solomons Island, Fort Washington, then back). Should be fun.

No problem, I look forward to your install and review

Posted a reply before this one - but don't see it there, so here goes another.

This mod definitely helped with aggressive cornering (flatter, less body roll). Seemed to help more than the rear sway bar mod, which seemed to help more than the front strut tower brace. I'm guessing the stiffer front sway bar has more impact due to more weight in the front, while the front tower brace didn't have as much because I don't drive aggressively enough to experience significant unibody flex (which the front tower brace helps with).

It took me just under 3 hours and most of that was getting the devilishly shaped bars out and in. I did this solo, so I changed the procedure (no prying or assistance - so I used a small jack to spread the subframe down to get the bars out and in, and that same jack to raise the subframe back up to line up the "LONG" bolt.

Also, our bolts are different sizes than the 6th gen directions indicated. The bolt connecting the bar to the endlinks was 18mm (not 17mm) and the rear subframe braces were 21mm and 16mm (not 19mm and 12 mm). All the y-pipe bolts were 16mm as well.

While an inexpensive mod that improved my S (and should improve a non-sport SV), it is not an easy mod - it requires a bit of time and patience.

Glad to hear this helped you out! Would you mind letting me know where you got the Sport FSB from for $89 shipped? I'm very tempted to do this next...

Is this Sport FSB already included with the SV sport package and would only help people with the S model?

Yes. Folks with any model that isn't an SV sport (S, SV, SV Premium) might find this helpful.

I just want to reduce the body roll a bit more without having the firmer ride of the SV Sport. Hoping that the Sport FSB along with my Stillen RSB will help my carve up corners a bit better before I slap on better rubber

Okay cool thanks for the info. Yeah I was looking for an upgraded FSB too but knowing I already have somewhat of an upgrade beyond bone stock helps. Honestly turning in this thing with the Eibach's, strut bar and rear sway bar is amazing. When I first got it, I could feel how heavy the car was in the turns much more. Now it drives like a shark.

I'm a bit surprised that Racingline or Stillen hasn't made their own FSB for the 7th gen yet. Ah well, I think the Sport FSB will have to do for now

Should you decide to put one in, if you need a hand - just let me know, I'm just up the road.

It's definitely on my list of things to buy in the next 1-2 months. Appreciate you volunteering your time to help with the install

My 2011 Sport Grille and FSB are on hold for a hot second. Heading down to Deals Gap, NC for ZdayZ May 18-22. With the price of fuel as it is and 540 miles one way, you understand!

I should have ordered new rubber before going down there. Pretty much all 12 370Z's that I'm rolling with have RE-11's or Pirelli PZeros

Now that's some expensive rubber. My days of P-zeros and Pilot Sport tires ended when I left the private sector, sold my M-coupe and joined the gov. Before I sold the Warrior and bought the Stratoliner a couple years ago I used to consider going down to Warrior Fest at Deals Gap, but something told me I'd grind more than my pegs off.

I still ride with those guys (from RSWarrior.com) on occasion, but they have a certain disregard for the speed limit - and occasionally the laws of physics - that I find fun, but ill-advised, so I keep thinking I need to let it go. A month or so ago I was getting silly with an M3 on 495 on the Strat, but - as I close in on 60 - I need to consider whether it's time to grow up.

I think RacingLine includes new bushings for their RSB, but to my knowledge, don't know of any aftermarket company that makes poly bushings for the front. I just used the stock rubber bushings on the RSB install, re-greased them and called it a day.

Honestly unless you track the car, using poly bushings on a DD will just transmit more road noise and suspension racket into the cabin. Polyurethane bushings do however resist deflection under load better.

Bumping up an old thread because I'm looking into a few changes to help my handling. Just received my rear sway bar, hoping to install it soon. Started thinking about the front, and found this thread. Anyone know if there's been any change with the front sway bar? Any companies making an aftermarket one? My Max doesn't have the Sport package, and it looks like the Sport FSB is being sold for $80 now on that link a few posts up. Anyone else done this upgrade and can pass on your thoughts about it?

Just responding to this old post....but its still relevant. The way a sway bar works is in torsion. The polar moment of inertia (the coefficient for torsional stiffness) for a solid bar is based on the diameter ^4. Therefore, 26.5^4 / 25.4^4 = 1.184. So the sport bar should be about 18% stiffer assuming they are solid bars. If they are hollow bars, i'll need to know the thickness of the walls of each bar to calculate the relative stiffness of them.
