Painted Calipers...
Painted Calipers...
So finally had enough of the nasty rusted looking rotors. Didn't really want to order new ones...so i Painted them. Also ordered EBC redstuff pads for front and back and will have them installed next week. The paint is a matte black.
before

after

Now when i get the pads...since there red with black shims...the red should match up somewhat to the wheel.

yeah i painted the whole thing..took about 15 min per side. Dried in like 20 min...than as i drove i was gently braking and all the paint was scrubbed off the rotor itself. Now all is well...ill take pics of it to show you. Besides i'm getting the rotors lathed when i put the pads in next week. I found the Pro-cut on car lathe here in NJ. That's the one they talk about on the EBC website to prevent run out.

I'd love to do the same thing in all black myself, cause my rotors are rusty too. Just didn't know it was okay to do though. That's awesome I want to do this today.
Yes, but from what I've heard you don't want that **** to get on your brake pads cause it obviously screws with the quality of your braking. Sounds like maybe it's okay if you're about to take the brake pads off and replace them anyway, but I'd definitely go do some hard braking before swapping them out.
Also note dupont makes a nice brush on kit instead of messy spray cans, which then you dont have to tape up as much if your a clean painter. I remember only taping up the closest adjacent areas on the rotor only a tapes width.
If you do it the correct way and tape up the pad contact areas of the rotors it takes about an hour each corner for a couple of solid coats. I do 3 coats.

Thanks for the heads up on the brush kit instead of spray, that way I can just do all the visible areas and not have to worry about all that overspray. Definitely going to do black and see how it turns out.

Nice brakes! I still don't see the need for 'em unless you take this to the track, race a lot or your rotors are wrecked and you need new brakes anyway. I don't know about anyone else but my stock brakes work VERY well...just tired of them looking like crap. What amazes me is they still don't coat them in some anti-rust or Zinc coating that keeps them halfway decent looking. I could see getting Brimbo's on a Z, but not a Max.
Yeah...everything is fine...As soon as i left the shop...i just did some easy braking and all the paint on the rotor came off...even if it gets on the pads...the pads wear away...as will the paint. Nothing is going to get embedded into the rotors as the pads will keep sweeping away all the crap. Right now there is absolutely no difference in braking from the before and the after. Just waiting on the Red Stuff to come this Thursday...so i should be able to install everything by next week. I don't get why people think it's so terrible. Even if you do crazy breaking that will only speed up the process of the paint being removed from the pads and the surface of the rotors.
smh. i'm not saying that. you know how brakes function right? well if you put a coating on that surface thats supposed to create the friction that slows down your car then you could risk loosing that friction. and therefore loosing your braking ability.
So far in this thread looks like 3...maybe 4 idiots got big brakes just for looks?? Hey maybe go get a turbocharger now so your engine bay looks all chromed out. And then get a cat-back exhaust so the bottom of your car looks new.

If I had an old *** Maxima like all you cats I'd be stuck on the 7th gen forums too.

Hey I'm sure you saved some money by keeping that old ugly Maxima, sounds like a good way for you to save some more! Good idea bro!

I would just waste my key strokes writing a complete response... good luck spraying those rotors and calipers while on the car there genius

You painted the rotors?
