Question What type of wax do you guys use?

It's time for the 1st car wash & I want to put a good / long lasting wax on my black Max to help the water bead off during the rain... just not sure what type to use.

I see NU-Finish all the time but read while it does last a long time it doesn't leave a good finish on darker cars. I've thought of the Rain-X wax, but seems kinda of noobish.. hell I don't know.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Yes, this is more of a generic question, not 7th gen only. Besides, waxes are like toothpaste. Everyone has a different flavor.

A wax has no correcting abilities. It MAY fill in minor imperfections. A polish has abrasives that correct the paint. A clay bar is a piece of clay with abrasives in it that trap contaminants and pull them out of your paint finish.

Zaino AIO - All in one

I love this stuff. It's only available on the Zaino website and at $26.95 it's not exactly cheap, but honestly nothing else I've bought before from any auto parts store compares. It goes on easily, buffs off easily, and doesn't stain any of the rubber or plastic trim, and no white dust either. It seems to last a while too.

Hahaha agreed! I've been using Zaino for over 10 years and love it. Easy on, easy off and the stuff lasts 8-10 months.

Here's what I just did on my paint a few weeks ago:

1) Dawn wash
2) Clay bar
3) Dawn wash
4) Meguiars Professional Grade Swirl Remover w/ Porter Cable D/A buffer and light cut polishing pad
5) Zaino Z5 polish
6) Zaino Z6 gloss enhancer
7) Zaino Z5 polish (second layer)
8) Zaino Z6 gloss enhancer (second layer)
9) Zaino Z9 Grand finale spray/sealer
10) S100 Carnauba wax

I was thinking

1-wash
2-clean with meguirres ultimate compound

its not cheap but if you REALLY care about your paint you need to treat it properly. This wax is used by many exotic owners & connoisseurs. I've been using it for about 4 years now, I did a black 09 Phantom last week for a local celeb & it came out great as always.

You have no protection in that regimen. Plus unless you have serious swirls or have a DA you will not break ultimate compound down enough to get a good finish... Try swirlX or scratchX and follow up with a wax

I did wash, claybar, detail with scratch-x, and wax. Definitely took several hours but the appearance of your car will reflect the amount of work you put into cleaning it. You can skip claybar and scratch-x and have a great looking car unless your paint has containments bonded with it or has moderate scratches you want to reduce the appearance of. I wouldn't skip waxing though, that's sort of a required final step if you want the paint to last.

Also I used all Meguiar's - awesome stuff.

It doesn't take long to wax a car and you don't even have to do it often. Like once ever 6 months.

Exactly. Between waxes you can use the spray on stuff to provide a little extra shine after washes. I sometimes spray on the wax right after I rinse my car and then dry it normally. This works out well.

didn't have time to wax this weekend, but did use the Rain-X wash & wax. The finish came out very nice.. we'll see if & how long it beads water. As luck would have it, it's supposed to rain later this week.

What's a pain in the *** is doing a full wash, claybar, scratch-x, and wax and then a few weeks later see new scratches on your clearcoat. Figured I'd at least give it another month or two before stripping the wax off with dish detergant and giving it a bath in Zaino treatment before re-waxxing it again.

I got offered from the dealer they will do a professional "Teflon" finish and it will "never scratch." They do interior and exterior. I searched the forum and there's only posts from like '05 and they're uninformative. Anybody know anything about using Teflon products?

I picked up some Fukken Wax from a recommendation over on the Dodge Talk boards for the Ram. I used it today on the Max SV and it looks awesome. Don't let the name put you off, it is great stuff.- IMHO.

How can you say its "great stuff" - its been on your car not even 24 hours yet?

I have used it on my Dodge Ram trucks for two years. I got the recommendation over on Dodge Talk. Today was the first time I used on the Max since I just bought the car on Friday, but no reason to think it won't work the same as it has on my Ram trucks. That is how I can say it is great stuff.

Carnauba.........Wax

-Choose whatever brand you feel but this type of wax is the BEST. Ranging from $10-100+ a bottle.

Agree! Expensive but never had a DIY process that lasted 8-10 months. Other waxes/polishes look good but they have not lasted as long. I heard here that Zaino is just an overpriced rebrand but it has worked for me. I also like that their products (from the polish to the tire shine) don't have a chemical smell.

Have you tried Meguiar's stuff too? How long does that usually last? I'd go with Zaino's if it lasts 8-10 months, wow. But if Meguiar's lasts 5-6 or something close then it might not be worth all that extra work IMO. Unless of course the car actually shines more. I'm thinking of bathing mine in a Zaino treatment to deal with some scratches primarily.

First, caranuba looks good but does not last long. Rarely is any wax ever PURE caranuba. If it is it would be $300 or more. Plus it doesn't come in a bottle if it's pure... It would be in a can. Secondly, the reason most wax is not pure caranuba is because of longevity. They add additives and polymers to help it last longer...

Saying caranuba of any brand is the best is not true. A lot of brands market their wax as caranuba when in reality it only has 5% caranuba or less.

A lot of people obviously have a lot of opinions, but going off of fact is what will ultimately help you decide which wax is best.

And hoghunter... Good to hear! You did not say that in your first post...

I agree as well. I used to use Mothers and Meguires, but I stumbled on Zaino! I will never go back. Their product lasts so long. And the shine is the deepest I have ever seen. Also all their products smell amazing, like candy or bubble gum. Great product in my opinion.
