Wheel weight

Guys, not certain if this was ask before..but all of you that have aftermarket RIMS on..what's the most or recommended weight on (1) RIM you went with..
I saw some nice RIMS but they are almost 35-40lbs each...so I'm thinking these are way too heavy..Let's hear what u guys recommend..

I personally would try to keep it at around 25-30lbs or so if you want 20's, but do not let a couple pounds keep you from getting the wheels that suit your style. 22's obviously will add more weight. The added unsprung weight will add a performance penalty, it is up to you how important that is to you or not. FYI - The Forgestar F14's I have on order are 26lbs for 20x9, their 22x9 are 29.5lbs.

When going with 20" wheels, I would think the last thing on your mind would be wheel weight, especially at 10" wide.

I'm looking at the F14's in silver or gunmetal And here I thought I was going to get them before anyone else! What offset did you end up going with?

You're right though about heavy wheels/tires killing the performance. Not just acceleration, but braking, handling, etc will be affected as well.

gtmassive75- I don't think you'll cause any major suspension issues (i.e. struts, springs, strut insulator mounts, etc) however I would be more concerned about my wheel bearings having premature wear and tear from the heavier wheel and tire weight at each corner.

I went with the gunmetal 20x9 and a 38mm offset. Figured that makes a nice 25mm (1 inch) extension from stock. I could have been a hair more aggressive, but I did not want to risk dealing with rubbing issues once I install my springs. My F14's were ordered almost 4 1/2 weeks ago, should hopefully be ready to ship soon.

I meant to weigh my stock 2010 18" wheel + tire when I did my last tire rotation but forgot!

The stock Goodyear RS-A 245 45R-18 weighs about 27 lbs. The 19" version weighs 28 lbs.

Rotating my tires myself based on weight, I think the stock 18's with tires weigh between 50-60lbs each. I'm sure someone here knows the exact figures, but I'll try to pop a wheel off this weekend and weigh it to get a ballpark figure for you (got 25K on my tires right now).

agreed. if you're that much worried about weight, why not just keep the stock size?

Thanks, I would appreciate that since I am trying to see how much weight i will be saving when i switch over wheels. I am looking at some Enkei's 18X8 which are 17.8 lbs. Might throw a spacer on there to make it flush with the body and try to powder coat them the same color as my car(Crimson Black)

No problem man. Got a link for those Enkei's? Only 18lbs for an 18x8 wheel is pretty damn light. The TSW Nurburgring's I'm very tempted to pull the trigger on are 19x9 and weigh 23 lbs (rotary forged).

Crimson black paint + wheels =

Enkei RPF1 Rims, They are listed on their website. Those are some of the lightest rims i have seen. They are famous in the Subaru/ Mitsubishi community.

Ahhhh I've seen those before. Buddy of mine has that same wheel on his 350Z. Man, 18lbs a wheel plus maybe 26lbs for a tire is going to make a decent weight savings at each corner. Probably won't notice a huge difference on the street, but on the track you will.

Just checked out what the TSW Nurburgrings weigh in a 18x8 size: 18.6 lbs. Not heavier by too much and are also considered a great track wheel (HRE has been getting blasted lately for shoddy build quality and their wheels are 1K to 1,500K a piece).

Lightweight wheels also improve MPG's. 12-15% for me. And you do feel it. I went from 52.5 lbs per corner to 38.5 lbs and it's very noticeable under WOT and generally feels more nimble.

My lightweight wheels are 14.3 lbs each.

1 lbs per inch diameter is ultimate in lightness. but this is super hard with larger and wider wheels. cast wheels are going to be heavier so if you want light weight you gotta look into 1 piece forged wheels. look into Rays and Work wheels but be prepared to spend thousands if you want light weight, big and wide wheels.

in 20's your choices would be:
VOLK TE37 20"
VOLK VR G2
Gram Lights R57GT

these are $1300-$1700 wheels. EACH

IMO not worth it, I would just stick to 19's unless u wanna spend in the thousands for lightweight 20's like QT1 5MT AE mentioned above.

With the lighter wheel, it will definitely save with fuel consumption and also increase performance. For the Enkei's, all four will be in the $1200 range which i believe is good.
I have been looking at tire weights on tirerack.com and it seems the tire to stay away from if someone is worried about weight are Bridgestones.(30lbs/tire)

NmexMAX, what size and wheels do you have?

These are too small to look good on your car. They're 17x8.

NMex's wheels in a bigger size like 19 would be perfect.

You saved 14lbs a corner?!! Holy smokes dude! Your wheels look like the 350Z Track Edition Ray's wheels. Am I right? Those things are SUPER lightweight.

Even shaving 10lbs of unsprung weight off each corner is a huge improvement!

Ahh yes, but I had some MMEV5's, real heavy wheel.

18x8 w/ 245-40 18's weighed the same as the stock set-up (17x7/235-45-17) at 52.5#'s.

The ones I'm comparing them to are the Motegi TrakLites, which are 14.3 lbs (17x8 245-45-17) or 38.5 #'s per corner, which weigh the same per corner as my 4th gen 15x6-205-60-15. But of course we then get into rotational mass (15 vs 17, etc).

The Z33 tracks are 18.6lbs per wheel in the 18x8.5 +33 trim which are also lighter than the stock set-up. (17x7). Sad really.

Ah, I gotcha. Those Z33 wheels are one of my favorite designs they had available. Look real sharp on your car dude!

Glad to see I'm not the only one here that wants some lightweight wheels to keep that unsprung weight and rotational mass in check!

Thanks!

A lot of people think they're played out and stuff. Which they may very well be on the 5th gen on this forum, but not in my hometown, or anywhere near. I also like that they retain the Nissan center cap.

Also, I went through A LOT to get these wheels since I did not want a staggered set-up, I needed to buy 2 sets and split them with another member who wanted the 8.0" wide all around.

I opted for the 8.5" all around, so yeah, they have some history.

And that is why I gave up on trying to find 4 fronts of the new Z34 Sport wheels
