PCV Oil Separator Catch Can - Anyone installed one?

This is more of a "prevention" item as opposed to gaining any hp or anything like that. My dad with an '04 Corvette installed on, a friend with a 2011 5.0 installed one as well. Basically this helps to keep oil vapors from getting into your TB and intake plenum.

I've found one made for mustang V8's that has a compact design (http://jlttruecoldair.com/ZenCart/in...roducts_id=317) that I might end up getting.

I'd like to hear from the grease monkeys out there who have wrenched on the 3.5 motor to see what diameter hose I'd need (need some extra length for the separator) and what that rectangular box is with input and output hoses that clamps up between the throttle body and the air filter.

Only reason I'm considering this is because I see WOT pretty consistently and just want to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

No not yet but I'm looking into it...

I've looked at the Mishimoto, JLT and 42. I'm thinking of getting the 42 although the JLT might be just as good and for the price it's hard to justify the 42. Have you figured out where you would mount it?

Here is a Mishimoto install on a Frontier:

I thought nobody would respond... hahaha!

That 42 catch can looks like a quality piece. Like the fact the barbs are already built into the catch can itself. Then again, $235 for the piece is a bit steep.

The Mishimoto catch can just doesn't seem to have the build quality of others I've seen. I think the JLT still might be the best bet for both what it does and the price range. Whenever I decide to purchase everything, will try to do a DIY thread so other's can see where and how I mounted it.

Most folks don't know how oily the VQ35 and VQ37 intake plenums can get. I'm friends with enough 350 and 370Z owners who mod the snot out of their cars to know that this is a worthwhile investment! While you won't see any performance gains, you're saving yourself any trouble down the road.

Okay, so I've done a bit more research on this mod and finally have my plan of action.

After shopping around for all different brands of PCV oil/air separators, I've decided to go with the JLT catch can made for a 2011 5.0 Mustang. The fittings are 3/8" NPT barb style to connect the PCV hose. Going to buy a couple feet of 3/8" reinforced hose to connect everything. Make sure you use a reinforced hose as you don't want the thing to collapse under pressure.

I'm going to remove the stock helmholtz resonator (the skinny rectangular box in the PCV line inbetween the intake and engine cover) and place the catch can there instead. Going to be purchasing all the parts over the next couple weeks. Will keep everyone posted once I install everything and take pics as the install goes along. Shouldn't take more than 30 mins to complete.

Also, the JLT oil/air separator isn't your only option. Jegs has one with a clear bowl at the bottom for around $45 bucks. I went with the JLT can because of the filter design and removing the bottom collector part of the can is super easy and you dont have to remove the PCV lines.

How did the install go? Were you able to use the bracket that came with it. I looked it up and noticed that it comes for passanger and driver side installation so I assume the brackets are different. So which one did you go with.

Does anyone have a picture or description of where the pcv valve is? I'm at 35k miles and I want to replace mine.

Actually, there is never oily crankcase fumes going through your nice clean air filter. Nissan air filters come pre-oiled - yes, just like the K&N filters. Nissan paper filters are oiled so that they will depth-load with dirt.

The PCV system goes like this: crankcase (+ pressure) -> PCV valve -> intake manifold (vacuum). To keep the crankcase from developing a vacuum itself AND to keep fresh air cycling through, there is a fresh air feed hose that simply draws FILTERED air from the intake hose (somewhere between the air filter and throttle body).
