How to MURDER the chrome

Well after pondering awhile and looking at my wheels ect... I have come to the conclusion I want to go with a "murdered out look" or half way atleast.

ANYWAYS

How have y'all covered the chrome trim on this car? I'm not really feeling vinyl as it will eventually fade... How hard would it be to remove all chrome trim, sand, prime, and paint? Can you even remove the chrome around the windows? What about the handles?

I would rather spend the money and get it done right the first time.

You can remove all that and paint it, a few members have done it before. Would make everything look much better.

My car is in the body shop for paint job..I wanted to paint all the chrome, but the body guy told me after a while it will start to flake..I was told this by 3 auto body shops.. Guess the best alternative is Vinyl...

Well ****...

Anyone know a way to get the chrome painted so it won't chip? I hand wash only if that matters?

Not my style. Looks extremely cheap IMO.

I would rather have it painted professionally.
How do you remove the window trim?

And I am guessing I will have to remove the door panels to remove the handles to get them painted.

I saw the pics in the other post...

Window trims look good but the handles aren't up to my perfectionistic personality...

You can scroll through this old thread and also look at my newer stuff. Believe me I'm a perfectionist and I know exactly what you want it to look like. Paint will eventually start to chip as you have already been told. The vinyl (Done Right) looks 100% factory and withstands weather the best IMO. My roof is also vinyl and looks brand new even after a year of harsh sun in Vegas and SD.

I wouldn't plastdip anything permanently either...it's hella nice for trying stuff out though without permanently changing it. I think I like my grill enough that I want to peel the plastidip off and just paint it black.

4 ft wings...whatever companies make those need to be shot. I die a little inside when I see a Honda drive by with a double decker wing and a body kit thats flappin in the wind.

first I scuffed them thoroughly with a 3M sanding pad, then wiped them with rubbing alcohol. They then went into the booth and were sprayed with an epoxy primer. the paint was shot over the epoxy primer (no sanding in between). then they were cleared obviously. the key is a thorough scuffing and use of an epoxy primer

no problem bro! you only sand/scuff the handles at the start when they are raw (not after the epoxy primer is applied). the paint is smooth/flawless, smoother than the rest of the car in fact

Thanks for your delightful insight. I do not give a flying fu(k if you think plastidip comes out "quite well"... You can use it. It looks cheap to me, and will not touch MY car fool. you can platidip your entire car for all I care.

And I asked because HE did it. That is what forums are for fool.

Again thank you for your stupendous take on your extensive knowledge of the paint process, plastidip, and google. I really appreciate it!

In all honesty, thank you for the service you do tho!

Now I got to find a painter who I can trust in my new city of Chicago. If anyone knows of a place let me know!

Yes blacking out chrome stripping with something that works well is for 90's civics, I'd say vinyl is more rice....I have none on my car so no need to worry there coolio. It's the fact that you associated it with rice mobiles that you got this type of answer. You're welcome for telling some moron that she can google the proper process on how to simply paint trim.....Worth the space on this forum, and yes I pity you.

After re-reading ur latest post... Who or what are u talking about? It's a rambling, incoherent, runon sentence. I didn't understand it a bit. But anyways...

More than likely I am going to follow whites helpful information and scuff, epoxy primer, and paint. Thanks again everyone who put in helpful comments!

Why so much hate for the plasti-dip? I used it on my grille and it's held up nice thus far. As long as you don't go nuts putting it all over the place I think it's a great way to black out some trim.

Cause it's my thread and I do not like it... Start yalls own "I love platidip" thread... It won't touch my car so let's move on and never bring up plastidip again in this thread...

Go nuts with the black out tape...or take your trim off and paint it...I don't care...The fact that you think plasti dip is more "rice" then using vinyl is hilarious.

I dont think it's rice gangsta... I think it looks like ****...

So again let's move the Fu(k on... Plastidip is not going on my car... I won't put vinyl on my car either fool. It's paint only. So thank you again for your service. I do not need your input in this or any other thread. Thanks!

So you're telling me 90's civics with 4ft tall wings are not rice? Ok there motivator. You have a CVT in that thing you think is "pimp" so who cares what you do to it. My point is you're asking a question, then you tear it down like you think your Maxima is baller....Sorry killer but it's not and you can put paint on there, hopefully you let someone else do it, because if you can't search how to do it yourself or what the options are then you clearly won't be able to handle painting trim. You're welcome for your freedom of speech.
