If its a perm install I would hard wire the ac line to the fuse box. I did this for my radar detector and my GPS on my KLR

I wired my radar detector and phone dock to the fuse box and have them both setup on the driver side of the windshield.. I have a Droid X and was lucky enough to get an invite to Music Beta from google so i also ran a audio cable behind the dash to the AUX in port for the stereo.. i love google maps for navigation.. live traffic and what not all free with my phone...

There is a post on here about a guy who mounted his motorola xoom in his maxima (outside of his dash) i would like to install maybe something smaller like the galaxy tab where the stock radio is (no stock navi) figured it would need to be a custom job since no aftermarket kits would have cut outs big enough for a tablet... Google maps beats any navi system out there hands down..

I have but a 6thgen. Don't know if this will help you. But I updated my Garmin760 to the top of the line Garmin3790T which talks. This is how I have mine setup. It is very accessible and very functional. And I will tell you if you can, sell your Garmin1450 and buy what I have now, the 3790T or 3790LMT. I was in Vegas this weekend and the 3D images was awesome!!! Here in Houston, it does not show me a lot of 3D images. And it reports real time traffic.

I have my Garmin setup with the Dash Mount from ProClip love it. Only thing bad about it was the directions flat out suck even though it is pretty self explanatory it takes way longer than just 2 mins as they say. Took more like 45 mins to do the whole thing trying to figure out the directions.

I have my Garmin 3790 mounted to the driver's side vent via vent clips. Sits just below the window line of the door and windshield and easily visible, just like looking at my drivers side mirror.

The built in Nissan Nav sucks IMHO. The traffic on my Garmin is way better and I even get red light camera warnings from it.

I have a Maxima S. The screen doesn't show much more than the radio and AC settings. I put a piece of an iPod screen protector it on it, and then a small Garmin mount. Then I hardwired the mount power. This solution looks fine, switches with the car, and only obscures the icon for which vents the HVAC system is using. The weight of the Garmin unit doesn't harm the screen.
